Hi! I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I checked the sticky and searched the internet but couldn't decide if my budgie has scaly face or not. Here are the pictures. Thx a lot. Other side of the beak looks smoother, but I couldn't load the picture. Maybe new members have a limit for photos?

Hi and welcome, what a lovely boy . Yes i think he has scaly face, it can be treated with Ivermectin 0.1% which you can order on line, one drop on the back of his neck on the skin once a week for three weeks . Edited by Hezz

While I am sure this is just a typo, skysmum, I have changed it to read what it should as that concentration is ten times what it should be. certem, the concentration needed is 0.1% Ivermectin. Easily purchased online, if you are in UK. I say this is definitely scaly face.

Hi Guys First of all thanks a lot for your help. Here's an update of my boy's illness. I applied vaseline for three days, once in the morning and once in the evening to his beak and feet.

You will need to keep that up for about three weeks, due to the mites' life-cycle. Otherwise they will simply reappear. While the photos are not terribly clear, he certainly does look better.

I have not tried the vaseline as it is so easy to apply the ivermectin and only do it once a week and know you have gotten rid of the blessed creatures. I think you would need to do the vaseline treatment every day as what you are trying to achieve is to smother them, and insects are notoriously hard to get rid of without some form of chemical intervention.
