What are your thoughts on E cigarettes? Do you think they are safe around birds? I want to invite my mum and dad round for Christmas but my dad uses e cigarettes. He used to smoke and when he was here last year he went outside but with his dementia he kept lighting up in the utility room where the aviary is. I had to keep ushering him outside. He is worse now and sending him outside would be a pain as someone would have to be with him and that would be me. I would be cooking and running around after everyone as usual and looking after dad too.

As I understand it they only give off almost water vapour. They are nowhere near the effect of real cigarettes. I'm no expert though.

You must have had the same thoughts as me starlingqueen - we have a relative that comes round and uses one and I have always worried that it may effect the birds from what I have read iIn its review of emissions from two types of e-cigarettes, they did not find any toxic substances in the vapor produced by the devices. Lets hope that is the case

I stopped smoking 25 years ago and am I glad, apart from health reasons, they are not cheap! I don't like the idea of 'e' cigarettes either, just another money making business. Don't really know what the answer is for relatives but I wouldn't let mine smoke in my house I'm afraid, not any more. My niece has to go and stand on the back step at home (she lives with her mom) in a British winter that would be enough to make me give up Just wanted to add I have good reason for being anti smoking (tho I still like the smell!)....my two brothers and my dad all died from lung cancer! It's just not worth the expense and the health issues it can cause.
