Welllllll, as you haven't told us who is who ......... I am going to have my stab by the photos you have shown: Hello. I have never been sure what gender or type my budgies are. I believe Topaz is a female, and Indigo is a male, but i'm not sure. I have no clue about the type, so i would love to know what type they are. Topaz has more blue than Indigo, who only has a patch of it in-between her wings. More pictures coming soon. Also, my budgies are afraid of the camera, no matter what. It makes it hard to get a picture of them being happy. This one is the least clear of the three, but I am going to go for boy on the left, girl on the rightAgain, boy left, girl rightGirl left, boy rightI think your hen is a cobalt recessive pied; the cock also a recessive pied, but can't see any colour to be sure ..... I am definitely amateur status with the mutations. @corie, some help here, please .......... And please ....... let their wings grow out!

Topaz is the blue budgie, and Indigo is the white budgie with a patch of purple/blue in between her wings . I will be putting new pictures up soon, these are older pictures, so I only used them because the ceres were the same. When I bought them they already had clipped wings. The wings are almost fully grown in now. I will take some clearer pictures today and try to post it today or tomorrow, but its hard because they are afraid of the camera because it moves. Any ideas to get them used to it? Also, now that I know what gender they are, will I have to worry about them breeding? I don't have a nesting box, and they aren't all that friendly towards each other, but I guess that's because they're young. When I bought them, I was told they were both male... Thanks!

Don't supply a nest and they want breed, if you want them to breed i suggest you study long and hard about breeding before you attempt it.

I am so happy you have allowed the wings to grow out. Birds have wings for a purpose; they should be allowed to use them. As for getting used to the camera, I think only exposure to the black box and the noises it makes will see them more receptive to the whole thing. Pick it up, turn it on, and click away, even if you are not actually looking to take photos. With digital cameras it is easy; at least you are not wasting film as you would have been years ago. And who knows, you might just surprise yourself and them and end up with some decent photos as a bonus. My dog hates things that click, whirr, or beep, but even he has gotten used to the camera now ...... he doesn't disappear around the side of the house, now.

Thanks so much for the information! I'm glad I found this forum, its been a big help for me . I feed my budgies only seeds at the moment, because they won't eat pellets, bean-sprout mash, or even just regular mash. Someone said to me that half of their daily food should be millet, but i'm wondering about that. I just feed them millet as a treat if they do something good

Varieties of millet make up about half of a normal budgie seed mix, that's why it is good to keep millet sprays only as treats; they will gorge themselves on millet otherwise to the extent of leaving their normal seed. Forget mashes, pellets and try them firstly with seeding grasses, this is their natural native food so they are much more likely to to be interested in it, and then try them with leafy greens and move on from there. budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/509/fresh-foods-offer-budgieThis link gives a list of the more common fresh fruits and veggies that budgies tend to favour. You can find more comprehensive lists on the internet.

I will start trying to feed them leafy greens and grass to them again. Last time I tried Indigo wouldn't eat either of them, but Topaz loved it. What brands of budgie food do you recommend? I'm considering changing and I would like to know some good brands that aren't too expensive.
Thanks!

I have no idea what brands are available in Canada, I am afraid, but a general budgie mix is around 50% mixed millets, 40% canary seed (not the seed that is fed to canaries), and 10% other - oats, sesame seeds, linseed, flax, niger, canola, making sure that the oil seeds provided make up no more than 5% of the total.
