Hi all. I have 3 pet budgies all around 18 months old. They are housed in a large 5 foot long cage. I feed them on trill and mixed salad. They have mineral blocks, cuttlefish and grit. I let them out each day for a few hours and they then tend to pop in and out of the cage. The issue is one of the birds has been struggling to fly for about 2 weeks. He gets half way across the room and ends up on the floor. He will then jump onto my hand so I can take him back to his cage. His wings seem fine and he is seems in normal health and flight feathers look fine. Basically he is just running out of puff in flying. The other 2 birds are fine and I have not really come across this with other budgies I have had in the past who had the same diet etc. As he does not seem injured in any way does anyone have any suggestions I could try eg any food supplements or whatever?
Thanks

Can you post a picture of him? Is he visibly smaller than the others?

Poor little fellow. I have no answers for you, but I hope you can find the cause of his struggle. Keep us posted.

How does he seem when you retrieve him from the floor? Is he puffed out, stressed?? A photo would definitely be of help as well.

Thanks all for replies.
Hezz I am trying to upload a couple of photos but the insert image button only works if you have a URL for the photos. In the help it states the following. Add Attachment: If the forum staff has attachments enabled, you will see this button on the posting page. After you click the Add Attachment button, a new window will pop up letting you know how many files you can upload at a time, along with what the file size limit per attachment is.
Sorry to be a pain but are you able to enable this function for me or do you know if there is a workaround?! In reply to your questions yes he is definitively puffed out and just a little bit stressed once on the floor as you would expect really. As soon as I help him back into the cage he is fine. I don't think there is any damage at all to his wings. Anyway hopefully I will be able to follow up with a couple of photos. Thanks again.

You need to upload your photos to an image hosting site like photo bucket. Teen you paste the last code on the list onto this site.

Thanks all for your advice. I have been advised to try a supplement which is something I had been thinking about anyway. Will try this and monitor him. As I say he is in good health just running out of puff when trying to fly. I will see if the supplement helps. Thanks all again.

Could be post seizure problems. Neurological or injury flying. My budgie Loulou can’t fly anymore, this is due to post seizure effects and now his wings twitch constantly. So I help him get around. Perhaps studying his wings for twitches or shaking could help.
