Hi all, I stopped on my way home from crews hill today (Have to say the bird shops there are not great) and picked up a couple of fallen branches from what i believe to be a weeping willow tree. Can anyone confirm that i have correctly identified the tree? Can i just put them straight in and how do you secure them? (wedged in the cage wire?)

Wait for the more experienced. But please don't put them straight in the cage. They need treating first.

I asked the same question budgieben, about Willow, the advice I was given was to, scrub them well, then soak in boiling water, then to dry them off, put them in the oven at 250 degrees for about an hour, depending on thickness, this will help to kill off any bugs, larger branches can be dried on top of a radiator. I suppose you could wedge them between the cage bars, or you could use stainless steel fittings, this is a link to a company that sells them, they also have, budgie toys, swings, etc, all made from natural wood, lots of people on the forum use them including myself:- www.naturalbirdco.co.uk/ourshop/cat_539765-Stainless-Steel.html. Hope this helps.

All scrubbed and cooked and in the cage. Showing little interest so far but he is still very quiet anyway. Is that normal for day 2?
I have begun hand taming today and he has sat on my fingers for a few seconds and is happy to step onto a small perch that i have and let me move him round the cage

It is fantastic that he will sit on your fingers and the perch. Keep doing that and he will be OK with you in no time.

I am really pleased with that. He is very quiet though. He is eating well but spends a lot of time just sitting on a perch. I am sure it's normal for a new bird though right?

I have two boys one sits on the perch most of the day. the other is jumping all over the cage. So yes sometimes it is normal. If he is sleeping a lot then I would say not normal. We need the more experienced members to tell you more.

Make the most of the quiet time because it does not last. If Jo quiet I put youtube on and budgies chirping and singing and Jo starts tweeting away (sorry chirping her little toes can't manage the keys on the Ipad yet to start tweeting). I tweeted once, I have an account but for the life of me I don't know where the tweet went, I never found it

Ha that's funny. I started watching budgie videos on YouTube earlier and it woke scullys up. He was furiously chirping in reply
