That is so funny. Douglas is a riot. I love reading about his antics. Basal is opening up but he isn't like Douglas, yet. Do you guys have meet ups where you let your birds play? I feel so secluded since I'm in the US. Buds just aren't super popular and when people get them they don't do much with them. I'm getting ready to place a huge order for toys and stuff to try. I shouldn't but I have some extra money so I'm getting caught up and doing a few nice things for people with it. Plus I need a carrying cage. Right now we are at the vet for his second check up and the poor thing is in a box with holes.

No meet ups, everyone lives all over the country. Perhaps make some toys, do you use Pinterest they have some great ideas. Basal will get better it just takes time.

Quarantine is an issue with getting birds together, but like Sue said people aren't close together anyway. Back to the mirror question and the boys talking to them, my boys talk to just about anything - mirrors, toys, each other, even a post will do.

When I had Minty (who lived until he was 10), he was very much 'in love' with his mirror - it had got to the point where trying to remove it was making him depressed and very quiet so I figured that as long as he was happy that was more important.. now I have Sky I decided not to put any mirrors in her cage. I have a mirror that's mine above her cage though and she's found it, and her reflection it's quite funny, she loves head bopping against it, but it's not in any way obsessive so it seems ok. But I wouldn't want to put one in her cage now.

I'll have to check out pinterest. I'll need something to do for the month of july when I'm only doing 30 hours a week.
I think I took the mirror out before it would affect him to being depressed since that toy had only been in there for 2 days before he even moved towards it. But he wasn't doing anything with it other than looking and sitting near the "other budgie".

That's Douglas all over I took his mirror out of his cage when I got home the other day, to fix it to his room perch a couple of feet from his cage (to encourage him to use it instead of landing on other furniture) He immediately flew from the cage to help me fiddle with the clasp to attach it and carried on chatting away to his reflection. I was giggling and telling him he was amazing and gorgeous all the way through, the neighbours must think I have a secret admirer who comes in while the OH is at work
