Not sure where to put this but.....I've been having glitches on my puter for a while now so 'refreshed' it! Well I think that's what I did it's a lot better but still not 100%. Can anyone tell me....could it possibly be my mouse (my computer mouse that is!) thanks.

I'm not entirely sure what the problem is, what are the "glitches" ?

The screen was turning blue and wouldn't delete mistakes unless it took out the whole message.....just basically messed up so I've found one thing I like about Windows 8 , I managed to 'repair' it myself. It took me awhile but I've uninstalled & reinstalled a couple of programmes and ....yes....I'm using my 'old' mouse which seems to be working better than the one I was using, so I think I'll treat myself to a new mouse the same as this old one. If that makes sense, it does to me So if anyone ever does have a problem it may not necessarily be the laptop/pc it may well be the mouse (especially if it's a cheapo )

Sorry milliej, but I was leg pulling a bit. Your request was a bit, well a lot, sparse on content. You didn't give much information to go on and you asked if it could be your mouse. In fact it could have been anything that's why I answered like I did. The blue screen is what is known as the blue screen of death. Windows has always had this problem where the whole system would crash with just a blue screen and some very cryptic message on it. That is just one of the reasons I switched operating systems to Linux. Glad you got it fixed.

Weirdly enough I had to change my mouse recently because it kept randomly putting odd characters on my screen. Must have been a loose connection or something.

What sort of connection does your mouse use, it USB or wireless or PS2 plug? Each has its own idiosyncrasies.

It's usb. I don't like wireless cos it involves batteries and PS2?!?! that's like for ancient artifacts

I still use a PS2 sometimes. A USB certainly could encroach on a keyboard interrupt. That may be what milliej's was doing. It would be worse on a Windows computer.

To use a PS2, I would have to get a USB adapter.. my netbook doesn't have such "technology".. My desktop does but I only use that for printing - with an ancient printer (HP Laserjet 5L)... with a cable! As you know, I am on Linux, it was definitely my mouse putting random characters on the screen as when I booted without it being plugged in, it did not happen.

Ah Netbook, that tells me loads. It also has a mousepad which may have conflicted. Could you have just unplugged the mouse without rebooting? Windows may have complained about that but Linux shouldn't have.

It sounds like a conflict. The system didn't know you had unplugged it. What flavour of Linux are you using?

Ah short on content OP because I didn't know what it was or how to explain without typing a blog! Interesting what you say about mouses though or mices, or mice ...... of the computer kind. My 'old' one that I've just started re-using I thought was a 'wireless' because it has no wire but it is 'plugged in' so USB? Grief a little knowledge can be dangerous...tis true...... anyway.....what is the best kind of mouse to use with a Windows 8 laptop then? thanks
