I know all budgies have different preferences, but I thought it would be fun to know favorite toys or bits and bobbles yours like most. It amazes me how deep their personalities go.
Basal is still shy to most of his toys. He'll have a nibble on this or that, but has yet to actually play. He did discover his swing last night (it's been in for about 2 weeks now). I had previously had him step up on it but he would immediately jump off. Last night I got him on there and he stayed, and later got on it himself. YAY!
But anyway, no favorites yet here, tell us yours (the birds favorite).

That made me laugh suesbird! Basically everything that isn't a budgie toy! Hahaha! Douglas loves his wooden apple kebob dangly toy, which I was surprised about as it has no bell, no mirror and nothing really to chew or shred. Saying that he loves his cardboard box with shredding paper inside which he twiddled and twirls for ages, especially when he is having quiet time. And finally, he loves his mirror, when he is allowed it lol

Haha. Thinking Basal would play with the cheapest toy I put a toilet paper tube in and he scoffs at it too. I figured if it didn't cost he would be all over it, like my cats. Shiny things seems to work on him too. He nibbled my necklace yesterday when he realized he could climb on me. Crazy birds.

That's fantastic. I had the tube upright and at some point it fell over and was touching the perching that runs in front of the food and water. He did acrobatics just to not be near it. That was funny to watch though.

It sounds like he is seriously coming out of his shell Rae! Everything I read that you put on seems to show real progress in a short space of time. I think once we realise it's all relative to bud progression rather than say canine or even human, you can really see how what seem like small steps are really quite big for buds

I put a loo roll tube in a few weeks ago and you'd honestly have thought I was pointing a machine gun at them all. They went all thin, rooted to the spot then Sprite took off making them all fly about in blind panic Times like that I REALLY miss my Lemonade as he'd have been over in a jiffy checking it out, rolling it around and trying to fit inside! He'd play with absolutely anything and everything. His favourite toy was his yellow rubber duck Paddys is a ball, Sprite loves the basketball toy, her Mr. Worm and spinning the CD around ( An idea I stole from Goldie!) Pippin doesn't have a favourite toy, he is needy with the other birds and prefers chasing them. Though I have seen him bopping at the penguin on wheels a few times. Coconut clambers about all the toys, she loves the swings, but recently the curtain has become her friend, she enjoys hanging off it looking outside. Kiwi loves the swings too, but he has also discovered a little yellow mirror and has been having a daily romantic moment with it, baby bird is growing up Rae if your necklace is costume jewellery don't let Basal chew on it because of metal poisoning. Just incase ...

They really are big steps aren't they? All of my jewelry is sterling silver or pure silver because I have allergies to nickel. But I will definitely keep that in mind for anything that might be around the house or on someone else.
Basal acted like a carrot was a weapon and was absolutely terrified of it, until I grated some up and then he loves it. Just can't handle a piece that's whole. Sorry for not mentioning each of you for each response. I'm using my phone, that it old by technology standards and when I reply I can't see your comments so instead of accidentally commenting to the wrong name I am leaving that out.

No worries Rae, I personally think you are doing a fantastic job with Basal - remind me, how did you decide and then get him?

reajen01 I had been wanting a bird for a while, since starting with the bird staff at the zoo. My husband has doctor appointments almost every Wednesday because he's off Sunday and Wednesday. Nothing is open on Sundays. I got home from school and figured he was still at his appointment. He called, asked if I was home, and said we were going somewhere. I figured he found something he wanted. But he took me to the local little pet shop. And convinced me it was okay to get one. We originally looked at a hand raised green cheek that was really sweet, but since I've never had a bird for a pet it was honestly better to choose a cheaper bird. Not that it would get any less care, cause Basal has been and will be very well cared for. There were two hand raised baby budgies but one had a beak that the bottom grew out to the side and the other was very bitey. So the girl showed us the parent raised birds and I asked to see Basal. I chose him solely based on his color honestly. But even though he hadn't been handled he didn't bite and was much calmer than you would expect. So we took him home.

Swings, bells, mirrors, homework projects for school, particularly posters , spiral bound books/notpads, brightly coloured beads that can be moved about, particularly the acrylic ones rather than wooden ....... I think it is the clink, clink of them hitting together ............ and anything that incorporates more than one of the above, even better.

You have some active birds HezzI just got the order for Basal. We have plenty of toys to try. I put one new toy in and a strip of shredder paper. He now has a ladder to make getting back in the cage easier but I can eventually put it in the cage for a change of scenery later. He has a new natural wood perch at the bottom section where the food and water are, but I didn't realize the diameter (wasn't listed). I'm honestly not sure if I should keep it in there. It's about 3.5 cm in diameter. He hasn't been the most cooperative bird today. Not stepping up and doing ANYTHING to get away from me. Just one of those days I hope.

As long as he has other slimmer perches and doesn't use this one all the time, it will be fine. Just watch him with it, see how much time he spends on it. I have a whole 90 litre container filled with a variety of perches and switch them around every week when their cage gets cleaned; the perches and the toys get changed so a different lot each week. Could you consider doing this so he (and his feet) are getting a variety of different thicknesses and textures (just as important)?
