Made me cry a little but am happy that they are taking care of her and giving a good quality of life. Made me cry too Marianne Marlow and I'm renowned for being a grumpy old git.

I used the bog roll as well, not for what it is for.

I have been doing more research and found that birds can suffer muscular dystrophy. They site a vitamin E deficiency as the cause so I have been lacing Dittos millet with vitamin E oil in the hope it may help her in some way. It does seem to be some sort of muscle problem. When I begin her physio her legs, the right more-so, are stiff and pulled up against her body. After massage they seem more relaxed, not normal but much better, Unfortunately that doesn't last and is back to being stiff the next time. Keeping her clean and scratching her head are things I have found to be an issue. As she lays on her belly all the time, her poos don't drop away as they should so she tends to get a clump around her vent that collects seed that is on the floor. I have to clean her several times a day and she now has her own pack of baby wipes. Also she is moulting, her first, and is trying to scratch her head. A pitiful sight, she lifts her foot, moves her head but her leg doesn't reach further than the underneath of her wing.I have been scratching her head and removing loose feathers for her and generally doing what she is unable to do herself.

What a wonderful caring person you are. So resourceful with it. If this budgie can pull through this then she will with your help and care.

so heartwarming and poor Ditto.. must be so hard to not be able to do things for herself... just a thought.. is there a way, of having like a raised softer floor, with cut outs, not massive, as obviously she would fall through, but like say a box that has the cut outs for cup cakes idea.. that way, if there were some cut outs, hopefully she might get lucky and when lying on her tummy, the hole would be underneath in the right place so poop would drop through...
sorry prob not explaining very well

Her little legs don't move well so she would get stuck in any holes.

I saw that site. I have vitamin E to hand as I'm using it to treat my dogs warts, so I thought I'd use it straight away. I'll have to get some selenium. It does say it's preventative but I read somewhere that Vit E can be used to treat it too. There's no telling if it will work but anything is worth a try. I've also been looking at muscle relaxants. Camomile was one I will try. Been in the garden all day with the sick chook, trying to get her to eat. She's getting on now and the slightest thing the others see wrong with her they start chasing her off the food and pecking her. I have to make sure she eats without them bothering her. Managed to get some sweetcorn down her and she had some grass. It might be that she's just naturally coming to the end of her life and there's nothing I can do but I'll try anyway.
