Hezz I am not sure that even our very best vets here are as good as yours. I agree with starlingqueen about not risking an anaesthetic. One so called avian vet that I took Monty to yonks ago cos his cage mate had just died and I wanted to rule out any issues. She wanted to knock him out, send him to another local facility, keep him overnight and then send him back to me in the morning. I felt it would traumatise my little munchkin and that she was ony doing it for her own curiosity - his oddly shaped wings and stance was fascinating I guess. You have much more caring, useful and careful vets I think... prove me wrong anyone PLEASE! One good note, when she was examining him, Monty bit that vet good.. she made the "ffff" sound.. good boy Monty. He was so cheerful on the way home.

That is a really interesting article samwiseg, I think we all need to keep that for future reference. Hopefully we won't need it, but I hope it helps starlingqueen.

The vet who looked at Pippins cut tummy was not an avian vet, but he was so caring, turning the lights off, holding him gently, took time to listen and gave confident advice. I felt I could trust him.

I felt I could trust him. If you got a good one then keep him!! I admit I have seen a couple of great vets.. but most of the issues have not been solvable as they were tumours. But I still think Hezz's vet is the best so far! fixing a budgies broken leg... is amazing. Plus the ongoing care that Smudge has had. Such complicated issues.. Oh and Stace's vet too.. fixing little Boo's tummy when he ate stuff that he should not have.

I rang my vet and she said they would be reluctant to anaesthetise such a young bird. She said any deformities would be visible without an xray and if they were to do an xray they would wait until she is older so she has chance to grow and be strong enough for an anaesthetic.

samwiseg, I have seen that site you posted and don't think anything really matches Dittos problems. Thank you for your help though it is very much appreciated.

Marianne Marlow, I will tell Karen (and Demian) next time I see them that we as a forum are impressed with their care and skills. I did tell karen a while back that she has a fan-base right around the world; she said that had made her day. And neither of these are avian vets; they just care to know more. Dealing with the rescue birds gives them better birdie knowledge than the norm, for sure. SQ, That is fair enough. I can well understand anyone's reluctance to put a pet through an anaesthetic. And there is no point if they don't think an Xray is going to tell them anything.

She is so amazing and she looks so happy and upright. She has that "look at me, aren't I pretty". You just love her

What a courageous little bird. It does bring a tear to your eyes. She (and you) are doing so well, she looks as though she is actually standing up in the last picture. Bless you both.

You know, you could almost believe that she is putting some weight on the "wrist" of that right foot in those last two photos. Sooo good to see her upright, almost brings tears to my eyes as well, and I am not the one doing all the work with her. You and she are working so well together SQ. You are both doing amazing things, I think. She certainly does look very proud of herself, there, and rightly so.

Can only echo what others have said about your dedication and skill with this little lovely, SQ and Kian.
I have an interest in how people adapt to living with disability and the possibilities for wellbeing that can arise despite or perhaps even because of the disability. Every day I am buoyed up by seeing how my little Berry boy enjoys his life and how fantastic he and Luee are together.
I know you have a very full life as it is, SQ, but have you ever thought of working with animals as a job/vocation?

Sorry, my mistake, isn't it? That is her left foot we are looking at, SQ? I don't know why I thought right this morning ......... but that would mean she is using that foot a whole lot more than it would seem from the photo as she is holding herself up straight. Oh, please; put me out of my misery!!!
