Hi all. I'm a new budgie slave and have decided to make some toys for our little pocket rocket. He has shop bought ones but nothing is as appealing as the thread on my curtains which worries me. I have heard that veg dyed leather is good but I can't seem to find any. A few eBay sellers are a bit vague on their treatment process and although they market it as vegetable dyed don't want to guarantee that it's not chemically processed at some point. I know nothing about leather processing. What is safe? I'd be very grateful for any help. So would my curtains.

Hello splodge, and welcome. Love the expression you used 'budgie slave' cos that's what we all are on here!! What is the name of the budgie and when you get time we love pictures?!

He's called Georgie (I wanted to call him Stanley but got outvoted!) I'm on my mobile at the moment so not sure how to add a photo. He's a stunner though ( I may be a tad biased...)

One of my chickens is called 'Georgie' so I approve!!! Stanley is a lovely name for a budgie too! You are allowed to be biased splodge with your own budgie!

Hi Splodge and welcome, I use leather for their toys, I tie their doors open with it, dangle it of perches and, of course, whip them with it! ONLY JOKING before I upset someone.

Suesbird, you clearly have kinky budgies. Georgie is way too young for that. He is only 8 weeks old!
I've managed to change my avatar. It's an extreme close up of a fluffy sleepy bird.

Pippin 17 weeks old and Jo 17 months so not that old. Pippin just started playing with things, usually things he can throw to make a noise but he likes the sound of his own voice more, typical male!!!!

Well, I ordered some leather along with some acrylic beads this morning. The lovely lady at naturalbirdco.co.uk emailed me to tell me the beads I had ordered wouldn't fit through the leather (it was early, I hadn't had my second cup of tea. That's my excuse) and suggested an alternative. She amended my order and asked who I was ordering for. I told her about my new mate and she is going to send me some extra bits for baby beaks. How lovely! This new world of budgies that I have found myself in is really amazing!
