I'm going to be glued to this thread. Please keep the pictures coming. Babies look like they're already kissing!

Unfortunately mother has killed one baby...the little one, and very cruelly, i don't want to give detailed info.My wife got very upset and cried whole night. I really don't understand why she has done it, how a mother can kill her own baby. Also i noticed she stopped feeding the other baby, now my wife is looking after the baby and feeding by hand. She is doing her best to keep her alive. i hope the other baby will survive. other eggs are not hatched yet.

It certainly is an amazing feeling when you get your first chicks. Congratulations baci Sorry, I missed the second page of posts and didn't see that you had a loss. I too had a loss but it means that the other will be a strong bird.

Oh goodness! Sorry to hear that one of the first chicks died. Did the mother def seem to kill it deliberately? Strange, although I suppose it must happen. Forgive my ignorance - I don't know much about breeding. I hope the other teeny tiny chick will pull through.
Interesting to see the beak in the four-day-old chick. Recognisably a beak because of the shape, yet not quite like a "normal" beak.

yes beak did not seem to me normal as well, and also cere is like "swollen". as they are my first chicks i m not sure if it is normal. The 4-dat old one is trying to stand on her feet, and i hope will open her eyes in a week. There are another 2 eggs, i did not check them , but they are fertiled , i assume ne chicks will be born this friday and sunday.

And have a look at photos of others' chicks; you will see that the cere is very pronounced. Not sure I have seen one come out with down, already, though ...... might be like some babies born with hair all over but it all falls out soon after.
