Where in Hampshire are you out of interest?! Will you ever breed and sell? Just wondering for the future as id love a little boy budgie at some point Hi mintysowner I'm in Pamber Heath, about 6 miles North of Basingstoke just on the Berkshire border. At the moment I'm breeding purely for my collection, but there may well be the possibility of selling at a later date. It has never been my intention to breed to sell, as I'd rather keep them all and just build a bigger flight I don't even expect to make money on them, especially as I spend around £25 every month on seed and millet, and that's without fresh food prep and supplements. I'd have to be selling a couple of month, and I know that I will never get that big. In fact I'd be happy giving some away rather than take money. I'm sure there could be a baby boy at some point for you

Such a handsome little guy. What will you name him? I'm not sure yet, I haven't even thought of it. I just call him "little chicky" whenever I'm with him. I just spent half an hour with them, and he fell asleep in my hands, and mum hopped on and snuggled down with him just nibbling my thumb. My arms were in agony after a while due to how I had my arms held out, but he's worth it. He's going to be a super bird.

What an adorable little bird, do you know the sex yet Darren? What a great Mum Mildred has been, her and the baby are like two peas in a pod Hi jean. Hope you are doing well?
I'm 99% sure it is a cock, but at 4 weeks old it is still a gamble. I'm happy either way. He is such a cutie, and this evening I was back out with them in the shed. I held my hand out and he hopped straight on, had a nibble of my wedding ring and settled down and fell asleep. Mum then hopped on and snuggled down next to him and was softly grazing on my thumb. He is a super bird

He's a beauty for sure Darren, Mum was certainly keeping a very close eye on him, popping her head into the nestbox to make sure he was ok. I'm glad the birds have helped lift your spirits.

Oh I'd be more than happy to pay for one purely to pay towards the cost you fork out I'd love to get one from you - knowing how well you look after them as well. Sky loved the video of Mildred's little baby, also love the music you've got going on in the background I remember going in to pet bit at a garden centre and they had Junglebook on, it was great

Thanks also for your kind words, yes I do spend a lot of time and effort with them. Money is no object so long as they are happy buds
The music was Radio 2, the Desmond Carrington show I believe. Not my usual evening listening lol, I'm not yet that old

Mum is so relaxed, yes she keeps an eye on him, but she has come to be much more relaxed, going out into the main cage for most of the time that I have him to be with Tom, stretch her wings, drink and feed. Mum even joins him on my hand some times and snuggles down with him

Mildred, Tom and Bubba have now been placed into my new breeding cage with the partition removed, so they have double the length to move around. In the original breeding cage there was a built in nest box, and it was difficult to block off the nest, so by putting them in the new cages I can just leave off the attachable nest boxes. They will stay here for another week or so before mum and dad go back in the main flight, and Bubba can join Mim's baby (now called Paris) in the juvenile flight.
Some sad news, Mim was sitting on 9 eggs, but as the time wore on, I removed the definite clear ones as she was struggling to incubate all 9. Over time I got it down to 4 eggs only. This morning I went in there, and she had broken them all open. There were two definite checks and the other two were just solid masses. The two chicks didn't survive. I have now removed the nest box, and like Mildred and Tom, they will have a couple of weeks rest before going back to the flight.

Poor Mim. Does she seem confused? It must be a loss for her, one way or another. Budgies can be so clumsy in spite of their flight and agility. I wonder if she broke the eggs on purpose or with intent?
It's all go, at your aviary, but nice to hear the busy budgies get to have some time out. Are you going to keep calling the chick 'Bubba'? Is that it's name?

I'm not sure if Mim got bored and was fed up waiting, but to open all 4 then something was up with her. I'll keep a close eye on her while she's resting.
Mildred now comes out for a fly when I have Bubba out, and they are so well behaved. I just hold my finger out and they both hop straight on. I'm hoping for some good strong chicks with Bubba when he gets old enough. He's a little darker in the grey than mum especially on his back, and he's just sooo gorgeous
