 A good friend went to the Hamm reptile fair and bought me this lovely little chappie (or chappess). Sadly not the way I would have bought a tortoise but the gift is appreciated. I have wanted one for nearly 25 years and it had been on my mind, now that I am home most of the time and the buds are well settled. But this was a complete surprise! Still no name, currently being called Twofur due to the numbering. Fortunately I was great friends with an experienced breeder, for many years, so my knowledge is acceptable, compared to when I got Dougie and Bo, hehe. DougBo are doing fantastically well, they have free time all day, now that both are experienced flyers. They love their tub of chickweed and tub of millet grass. Bo did eat a little too much soil a few days ago and was sick, but a bit of Guardian Angel and rest did the trick. They also now have a small cage which forms part of the living room set up. When they both hop in I take it outside with me on those sunnier days for half and hour or so. They love it and snooze in the warm sun, it must be a lovely feeling to get the heat and light. A very happy family  |

Hermann's, about a year old we think. Not quite as entertaining as the buds but will be just as loved  |

I've got 2 Ibera. Lovely little things. Not as easy to look after as most people think. You'll be weed hunting/growing, now like me.

Lol ..... the photo looks like a pond with ceramic turtle attached. I have only once run into anyone who has kept turtles/tortoises and then I was a kid, very young but thought what a cool pet to have.  Meanwhile I had dogs, cats, horses, poddy calves and lambs .......not many kids get to do that! |

I have only once run into anyone who has kept turtles/tortoises and then I was a kid, very young but thought what a cool pet to have. Meanwhile I had dogs, cats, horses, poddy calves and lambs .......not many kids get to do that! I grew up with a veterinary nurse as a mum and veterinary surgeon as next door neighbour, so animals have always been my secret addiction but until this year I haven't been able to care for them due to prior work commitments. So my first love, buds, came first (obviously!!!) and then the tort, now called Wimble (don't ask). We also now have a pond with four fish and three snails, so I thinks that's quite it for pets now. Wimble does crane his head to look at the buds when they are flying about, as if to say "Who the fudge are you? I was here when the dinosaurs walked the earth, have some blooming respect you darn chatterboxes!" It has been a tiny bit emotional too, as I will need to change my will to accommodate Wimble in the future, but with the buds I don't need to think like that and it has made me a little thoughtful. DougBo are still wonderfully addictive, we just paused Ironman to watch them, now that's a feat for the Marvel addict aka the OH |

Sorry for being absent but this is our busiest time of the year and I have struggled to make room in my day to be so luxurious as to post on the forum  . I shouldn't be so self centred but I really miss reading up each day and following all the buds. Come winter when the OH is out at all hours mending boilers and Wimble is hibernating, I will be a pest I assure you |

Sounds like a great childhood, reajen01. Do torts have a settling in time, and how do you know??? What a good person you are to take the animals' future care into consideration; it is something close to my heart as well, particularly for those who have the long-living parrots. A year or so ago a friend of ours lost their 103 year old Cockatoo. Mark's great uncle was Cockie's original owner. When he died, she was taken in by his family when he was just a little fella, and as he grew up where-ever Mark moved to, Cockie went too. My older son will take in the birdies for me, and younger one, the dog.  If it comes to that. |
