Morning all. I hope I've posted this introduction in the right place. I'm brand new to keeping budgies and thought that I'd say 'hi'. Last year I looked after a budgie for a fortnight and my family clearly noticed that I was rather disappointed when she left. This year they hatched a plot without my knowledge, and on my birthday in June 'Basil & Jerry' arrived, and have quickly become members of the family. A nice lady from the 'Naturalbirdco' (who sell posh perches) recommended the forum to me, and I can see that it is going to be very useful. I have spent quite a lot of the past few weeks trying to retrieve the birds from the light fittings, but I am making small progress and after their 'evening fly' they are now returning home on their own. Next steps are trying to get at least one of them to hop on a finger, while we watch with interest to see if Jerry is in fact a cock bird as claimed....we shall see (I am not convinced). Thanks for an interesting forum. Hope to speak with lots of you soon. Kerry.

Hi Kerry. Welcome to you and your birdies. That "nice lady" would be the lovely Karen, who has a big following here on the forum. For a little bit of advice, I suggest that you get your birds out, one at a time and in a small room - bedroom, bathroom - and teach them to step up and down, and going back to their cage. The very basics really are necessary to keep you in control, and not having the birds ruling the household. Taking on two birds at a time is a challenge, especially first up, but make the most of them both, but set the ground rules first for the birds and have them be part of your flock, rather than them doing whatever they want to do, and you following along behind.

Yes, the birds are in my avatar. Basil is reflected in a mirror which makes it appear that he has a twin.

Duh - I have just noticed the photo now that Shirls mentioned it!!! This reminds me of an incident last week when my sister and I were sharing a room in a hotel (for our annual visit to the yummy Woolfest). She was just out of the shower searching around for a hairdryer, dripping all over the place. I got up to look and we both had a good search around. No luck. I then went down to reception to ask for one (being a kind sister and all that) and the staff were puzzled saying it should be behind the telly. They gave me another one as well. When I got back up to the room I looked behind the telly and there it was - attached to the wall so impossible to steal! The problem was I was expecting it to be black and it was white so I just didn't see it. Sorry - that it quite irrelevant to budgies! Kerry - you won't take long to find that we can stray from the subject sometimes on here...

Well in my limited experience of these groups, those that stray are often the best. I have already learned something today. It would appear that the reason that I have a new yellow and white feather carpet in my dining room is because Jerry is likely to be having his first moult. I wondered why there were never any blue ones. Ha ha. Oh dear, I have a lot to learn.

Hello and welcome to you and new budgie family. If you want good sound advice you have come to right place. There are one or two of us that are getting on a bit and tend to have a chinwag and stray from the subject. There is one on here who is regarded as a bit potty, but I won't mention my name.

Hello and welcome Kerry. The advice from people on here has helped me a great deal so you've come to the right place . Beautiful little buds by the way... I've found spinach and millet a great bribe to get the little fellas to step up onto your finger, with a lot of patience of course. Best of luck, I'm sure eventually you'll upload a pic or two of them on your finger
