Hello all
I'm just dropping you a quick Hi as brand new Budgie owners. We have a pair of lovely birds, and enjoying the occasional peep from them - knowing it'll only get noisier!
We bought them from Cadbury Garden Centre near Bristol at 14 weeks old, with a good size 2x2x3ft cage. I'm looking forward to reading all your posts and hopefully learning from all the mistakes you've talked about before asking any stupid questions!
Thanks!

You don't think you can just post that intro and run do you? We want pictures, pictures and more pictures. And the only stupid questions are the ones that are left unasked. So welcome to the forum and ask away oh and did I mention, we like pictures?

Hello and welcome from me and two very, very noisy budgies who will be going for adoption if they don't shut up for 5 mins.

Hi, and thanks for welcoming me (and, most importantly, my budgies, Marvin and Ophelia) to your forum. I'm not hugely technical so hope this works! Photos -

Ophelia is the one on the left as you look at the picture. We gave her a girls name as she's smaller, but we can't tell if Marvin is indeed a boy yet, apparently.

They look lovely! If you can post closeups of their little faces then we may be able to tell if they are male or female

Okay, I'll try... Marvin - Ophelia- Hope it's close-up enough...maybe you wanted a "birds-eye view"? Thanks Martin

Oooo! I'm going to take a gamble here and say Marvin could be a girl.

Oooo! I'm going to take a gamble here and say Marvin could be a girl. Marvina? :-) She's a bit bigger than Ophelia, and uses that bulk to her advantage with some "shovey", bossy behaviour on the perch. They tend to always share a perch and follow each other around the cage. Marvin also pecks at the back of Ophelia's head, but we think it's more like grooming than being aggressive. Saying that, I think they've had a tiff because they're sat on different perches back-to-back. Come on girls, sort it out!!

I wouldn't go changing the name just yet, I'm quite the novice at guessing gender. It's just something I notice about Marvin that makes me think that way. As for the seemingly pecking at the back of the neck then I would say that was normal grooming as you put it, we refer to it as preening. That is a bonding thing, males do it to males, males do it to females. I' not sure if females could be so lowly. A bit of pushing about doesn't mean a lot. They will have tiff's and then before you know it they have made up again. Dynamic is the word. Great fun.
