Cookie loves his flying time but spends most of it sitting on someone's head or with Teddy, our wonderful dog who loves all the animals as much as me. He is 14 years old and has never even attempted to harm any animal.

Does Cookie have his flying time in the house? I would have thought he was rather a large bird now to go flying just in the house, yet would he fly away if you let him outside. He really has grown up. You have done a marvellous job of raising him. Does he come to you when he wants feeding or is he independent? There is so many questions to ask.

He really has grown up. You have done a marvellous job of raising him. Does he come to you when he wants feeding or is he independent? There is so many questions to ask. He does fly in the house OP. He's not as big as my African Grey and he has the house to fly in. He probably would fly away if he went outside, not intentionally as he tends to stick to us like glue when he's out but with the wind etc he would get blown about ad lose his way home. And, as you can see, he is far too friendly with the dog and us to be let loose in the wild. He wouldn't last the day. I do intend to take him out into the chicken run so he can have a fly around there too but I need to let the new chook settle first. He is weaned now and will refuse to feed from the improvised crop but he still makes baby noises and flutters his wings when he sees me and he tries to stick his beak between my fingers to "feed" he tried the same in my cleavage last night. Mostly when he's out of the cage, a large cage that is meant for rats, he just flies to be with one of us. Doesn't really fly around much unless we walk away then he flies after us. I have a lounge dinner so the room is long and then there is the conservatory on the end so it's a big area. He can fly in his cage too, not to any great extent but he can spread his wings and fly to his perches from the floor. I have left the bottom of the cage free of perches for this purpose.

It sounds like you all have quite a time with him. Is he in what would be classed as the juvenile stage yet?

I can't believe how well you have done with him, it's amazing What a lovely little chat Cookie is too. What does he eat now? Thank you Marianne. He eats the same as the buds do minus the fruit etc. In fact he is eating the trill they refuse to eat now. I also give him chick crumb that baby chickens eat and millet sprays. They don't eat fruit and veg unless there is nothing else, like in early spring when there is no seed about, they will eat a few berries and bread. They rely on bird table a lot during winter or will eat the odd bug or 2. Their principle diet is seed though. It sounds like you all have quite a time with him. Is he in what would be classed as the juvenile stage yet? He is a juvenile I suppose OP, yes. He hasn't had his first moult yet but is fully feathered now. The last area to get feathers is underneath the wings and they are covered. He still makes the little baby whistle noise and hasn't cooed yet, not sure when that starts.
