Thank you again folks for all your messages, they all still make me cry. Silly really, I always said we were being selfish to cry as we were crying for our own loss. Our dear little pets are no longer suffering so everything should be ok.

So sorry, your bravery at letting him go with dignity is a fine tribute to Harvey's bravery in life. Fly free without pain little guy xx

Although it is probably one of the hardest, it is the biggest gesture of love making that decision. That shows the true love & commitment of a responsible pet owner xx Fly high Harvey

Oh Shirls there is nothing worse than having to make this decision, it's just horrible. Poor little Harvey, you had his best interests at heart and if his quality of life was bad then you did the right (but hardest) thing. Sending you a big hug as I am sure you need one right now RIP sweet Harvey xxx

Thank you H2O. Harvey's leg ring was 12, so he could have been born any time in 2012. I had him in the September 2012. So that made him about 3 1/2yrs. He was bred for exhibition.

Sadly it seems exhibition and 'fancy' birds don't generally live near as long as 'pet' birds but Shirls, crying is a natural human emotion and we are given it for a purpose. Never feel bad about having a cry about any pet, it means you're a warm hearted human being. God bless.

I always cry when my birds die...people say it's "just a bird" but they are much more than that.

Just out of curiosity, how can you tell the difference between an exhibition/fancy bird to a pet bird?

Just out of curiosity, how can you tell the difference between an exhibition/fancy bird to a pet bird? Exhibition birds are usually a lot larger than 'pet shop' birds. My pickle is a 'pet shop' bird she is the white one, Harvey is the exhibition bird the green one. Missy is also an exhibition bird, the light blue hen. Oh, I forgot!!! Charlie the blue one is also an exhibition bird!

Just out of curiosity, how can you tell the difference between an exhibition/fancy bird to a pet bird? They are bred larger and with the big boofy feathers around the head.

That's the word I was trying to think of yesterday Hezz, 'boofy' for the head feathers, but it was early and I was in a hurry so left out that bit!!

I couldn't agree with you more, H2OShirls, I hope some of the rawness is subsiding a little. Of course you will never forget your brave little Harvey.
