The Kite Runner as suggested above is brilliant book written by an American Afghan and is about two Afghani boys who run their kite a common practise in their world. One boy is a rich man's son and the other his servant but they are the best of friends, always playing together. The story is very touching, sad and set against the backdrop of events that take over not only the boys lives but the whole country!

Can peeps make note that books in the Miscellaneous section need a little blurb about what the book is actually about instead of just 'page turner' or 'really good book'. Thanks guys.

The House On Cold Hill by Peter James.
Its a ghost story, a bit like Woman in Black. Its about a family that move into a old house. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm enjoying it so much I've bought 2 copies for Christmas presents. Its brand new, and £9 for hardback copy in Tesco.

memoirs of a geisha by arthur golden, again this was made into a movie but the book is fantastic also.
''A literary sensation and runaway bestseller, this brilliant debut novel presents with seamless authenticity and exquisite lyricism the true confessions of one of Japan's most celebrated geisha.
In Memoirs of a Geisha, we enter a world where appearances are paramount; where a girl's virginity is auctioned to the highest bidder; where women are trained to beguile the most powerful men; and where love is scorned as illusion. It is a unique and triumphant work of fiction - at once romantic, erotic, suspenseful - and completely unforgettable''

The House We Grew Up In Author:- Lisa Jewell
This is a story of the Bird family, the Mother of which is an obsessive hoarder. But the reason for the hoarding and the events that take place later in the book are very sad and tragic.
