I gave my younger daughter a budgie years ago when she left home, for company. She got married to a man with a cat. The cat killed the budgie.....she's been divorced years now. Not because of that though!

I think common sense should tell you that cats and birds do not mix. I have been an animal behaviorist\trainer for over 30 years, budgies are intelligent and trusting pets which make them a perfect pet, but they are delicate creatures,
I have had more than one budgie die on me just by clipping their claws or beaks, they actually died from shock, I do not mistreat, mishandle or harm any animal these birds were just going through a procedure that was for their own benefit.
So just think the effects a cat will have, the cat does not need to get his claws or teeth very near the bird to cause irretrievable damage, no amount of training will bring the bird out of it's shocked state. Please please keep the 2 species apart. Shewy

Common sense @shewbert,couldn't agree more with your comments, however those are two words that seem to apply less and less these days.

uh oh that sounds like an accident waiting to happen :s I will be blunt, you might have to rehome the budgie or the cats.. because usually god forbid something terrible might happen, budgies have a way of getting out or the cats getting in, y ay ay we do not want that!!

I just found the best cat repellent,, we have 4 geese, by golly they soon see the cats off. Sometimes see me off as well,,, they are Rottweilers with feathers.

When we house sit for my mum who's got a cat we take the birds and the cat is terrified of the birds and the birds don't take any notice. She very rarely comes in the same room unless the birds are covered for the night. But I.do lock the lounge door up at night and when we're at work just in case...
