I have decided to get Pickle a friend, he is 3 and quite big, he was from a breeder in Sheffield, I don't think he has any young birds at this time of year, does anyone know of any breeders with young males in this area, I fear I may have to wait till the spring? Here is Pickle, he is an English cinnamon green, he's tame and talks and spoilt but I think he is lonely

Is this something you have been thinking about for some time, Helen, or only more recently since his issue with his preening gland? Sorry, I cannot help with your quest.

Hezz I have been thinking about it for quite some time, Pickle is quite happy and social when we are in and he is out but we are at work for 7 hours 5 days a week and I think he is starting to show signs of being bored, bar licking and constantly chewing on bits of plastic string, its almost like he has got some ocd behaviour or like a comfort blanket thing, but because he has been in his cage for the past week I have noticed it more.

That sounds fair then. I was just concerned that you might be jumping into a decision too quickly. Remember, though, that he is very bored atm and will display this sort of behaviour, and because he is confined and you are watching him anxiously you may read more into it than there really is. But if this is something you have been thinking about for a while, then fair enough.

I have just phoned the breeder, he has three birds that are still bar heads and two still in the nest, he is going to get back to me with the sexes, I am getting excited already!!

He has done the same bar licking this morning from the outside of the cage and I am sat here watching him thinking this isn't normal

You sound like you are trying to discourage me Hezz, do you think I am doing the wrong thing? No; not at all. I simply was concerned that you might have been seeing his confinement to his cage and his obvious boredom as being permanent, rather than just something he was having to deal with short term. I hope the breeder has a little boy for you and Pickle. I didn't want you to rush into a decision and then feel you had made a mistake ....... I sometimes take ages to think things through when I want to be sure to be doing the right thing, that's all.
