What a drama. Seems like it's for the best though. [br I know! Iv googled male protecting nest box attacking female, worded it all ways I can think, and nothing. So hopefully it should run smoothly from here.

I think you have done the right thing now, if he is trying to take over and being aggressive to her its for the best. She will manage on her own once she realises she is the main feeder . little monkey isn't he, one to note for future parings.

Do you think he would act like this with a different female, I thought he would be a great dad aswell. Goes to shows you cant tell from there personalitys.

I have to say ive not heard of it before, some males do spend a lot of time in the nest box with the hen and chicks and some dont enter the box at all. Ive not heard of one being aggressive to the hen and trying to prevent her from seeing to the chicks though.
Was he a dominant bird before you paired them up?

That's why i paired them to be honest, because she is so dominant, and she would attack 3 males, only 2 tolerated her, and he kind of put her in her place. My other female choose him to flirt with too but she was always more loving with one of my other males.

Mmmm well hopefully things will be ok now, it sounds like two dominant personalitys clashing. The biggest fear i would have with him is that he would attack and kill the chicks. I would be wary of breeding from him again.

So hes not getting another chance, hopefully she'll be able to cope with 3 chicks, and realise hes not coming back.

Wasn't it BB who had a male who attacked and killed the hen? Yes, it was; I have found Dilly's thread: budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/8241/dilly-budgie-story?page=1We all became very fond of Dilly over the weeks of watched her develop. Unfortunately BB is not able to grace us with his presence very often at the mo. Work and ill health keep getting in the way, but we all miss his advice terribly. It might be worth a read through, bud07, and will confirm that you have done the right thing by removing the male.
