The trouble is with slugs THEY DO NOT Learn. One has to keep on disposing of them. It'l be alright when the nice hot Summer comes.

My friend who is a falconer was having a coffee with me, and I brought up this subject. He says that he has a couple of small ducks, they seemingly love slugs and snails and keep his place nice and clear of the nasty critters. So borrow a duck. Our geese are messy things, so think ducks will be the same, we have spent a fortune on our lawns but the geese soon make it look like a mud bath.

Gareth, FFG, since the slugs only want half a beer, have fun drinking the other half, or five, yourself, while you watch the little buggers drown. As Helen has said it seems they are unable to resist the yeasty sweet smell of beer ..... that might be why some men I have come across are bits of slugs themselves.

I have blocked all the gaps I could find and had a beer. Forgot to put the other half out though but no sign of any slugs last night. Fingers crossed they stay away. If they do return next step is to put a layer of felt or some like surface they don't like slithering on down.

" Had one beer and forgot" ?? You are a cheap date, aren't you?? If you find slugs crawling all over you in the middle of the night you will know why ....... you drank their beer!!!! Hopefully they have just given up and gone on to easier pickings.

I guess you could always breed hedgehogs.

Good title for a new Hithcock movie Sluggs. All of the 20,000 slugs appear from your lawn

I think Shirls has a hedgehog in her garden (in hibernation at present) but perhaps she could send him out on loan FFG once he's woken up

Another sad story, hedgehogs were once a common sight but now they also appear to be endangered, mostly unsurprisingly are run over by motorists! I have seen one in our garden but only the once, I do hope s/he is still alive and doing ok, we have plenty of slugs and snails for 'it' in our garden, they thrive!!

Am I the only one who feels bad for murdering slugs??? Probably not the only one mintysowner, but I bet you are definitely in the minority. My preferred method of dispatching slugs is a torch and a sharpened stick.

Am I the only one who feels bad for murdering slugs??? We don't get slugs, Becca, so I can honestly say I have never killed a slug in my life. Some things just have to make way for the greater good ..... in this case, budgies. If you had to weigh up your options, budgies or slugs, budgies or slugs, the budgies are going to be the winners, hands down.
