It's so sweet, Evie is such a gentle soul, she was taken under Inca's wing when i first brought her home, they were very close, she hasn't got a bad bone in her body bless her. There is something very special about a bond between two hens, it's so lovely to watch, they nuzzle right under each others feathers

It’s probably just as well Bailey is not a ladies man. Does he mind the two of them being best buds, or even notice?

Fran, he couldn't be happier, as long as they don't want to cuddle up to him it's all good, he's a funny chap. He doesn't want to get too close to them but doesn't want to be far away either

He is odd. I still think he has that ‘human’ element in him.

You'll never break that human bond for sure, we have some deep and meaningful chats over lunch, he eats, i talk, he's a good listener

Was saying to Fran, Bailey's had a bit of a day today. Ive noticed for a while that his beak was growing unusually long, this morning when i was in tidying round he was climbing round the cage using his beak when he became stuck with his long beak around one of the bars, i had to help him out of the situation. So i knew the day had come for the dreaded trim, figuring i would be a less stressful option than the vet i got prepared. It was all over and done with in seconds but i think the whole street must have heard his objections bless him . Of course this leads me to believe we could have the start of liver issues, while i had him in my hands i felt all round his tummy and its definitely larger than it should be in that area. That said his poop is perfect, no yellow staining at all, so from today they all have milk thistle in the water and there will be no more treats like grouts or millet, thankfully the seed they have has no grouts in the mix but i occasionally give them a treat of grouts separately, no more . They have always had lots of fresh food so im at a loss really as to know why. Ive had a couple over the years with liver issues which developed around this age, it could just be Bailey, he is more heavily built and i think more pre disposed to this. Anyway, all is well at the moment and with a careful watch i'm sure he will be fine. He's still not speaking to me but apart from that he's fine How VERY dare you I always like to see them cracking seed properly after a beak trim, its all good

Bailey, it was for your own good. And now you’ll be more handsome with your ‘normal’ beak

skysmum, I have to say that I think the liver issues are more often than not "genetic" and that bird is more predisposed to them. Mine have always had free flight all day and plenty of veg and yet some have liver issues and some do not.
