Lovely to see some happily grass-munching budgies. They do look pleased with themselves.

There is a small "no lawn" (don't mow) movement here in the USA. It hasn't gotten very popular, sadly. A lot of local wildlife would benefit from people not having perfect blocks of short grass all the time.

It’s pretty big here with mixed feelings, some people think it’s just the councils getting out of doing the work in public places etc. The only problem that I can see is that it’s made the tick problem pretty bad, some school children on a trip last year came home with ticks on them and we have to check the dogs out after every walk in long grass plus the seeds stick to them but on the whole it’s not bad and the buds benefit 😁

I had to do the opposite and bring someone inside for the night because it was too cold out. I’m sure a little mist over would have helped cool their feathered brows.

Where I am now, living on the top of a rather modest range, and when all the meteorological elements align, we do get runs of nights into single figures (5 oC is the lowest we have seen over three winters) as well of a number of times when the “feels like” temp is down there as well. I’m trying to think of a way of incorporating a place that can be made into a warm space on those nights but keep it openness for the main summer heat.

Ahh pretty chilly then. It’s difficult to know what to do really, do they all stay out most of the time now?

The weather has been so wet this year that the aviary has hardly been used as I found that there wasn’t enough shelter to stop the rain being blown in. So that’s the first priority and we have the sheeting to do it … just need the rain to stop! New budgies are going to have to go into the aviary for their own safety - Loki will try to kill any new ones coming into the house. It is not my preferred option but their safety must come first.
