I thought I'd start a thread of some of the art work that I have done.
I wanted to write a bit of background about my life and how art has helped me.
When I was in yr4, so around 8 yrs old, I won a competition that was in the class. In fact a boy was meant to win but because he was in trouble that day, I was awarded the chocolate prize. It meant the world to me, not the chocolate but the recognition. Everyone clapped for me and I felt so special. I thank my teacher Mr Mark Anderson. He is an incredible teacher, he made me feel like a person which was hard for me at the time because of horrible bullies.
When we used to do art, he would play his guitar and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
When I was in yr 5, I won a Christmas card competition and a book day competition. This boosted my confidence, I wasn't good at anything apart from art. Even the children in the class would come up to me and ask me if I could help them with drawing. I began to like school.
When I was in yr 6, I drew a picture for my mum and went to show it to her. She said it was great but I knew she was lying as she didn't even look at the drawing. My mums a nice person deep down but she definitely neglected my emotional needs. She said to me one day, "You're only good art, is that all that God gave you? Why aren't you good at maths or science?"
This really got to me so I decided that I would push myself to get good at maths and science. I did! I got A grades in my GCSE.
Sadly, because my parents did not give me the confidence or support me in my natural talent, I didn't pursue it as a career or even for my degree. However, despite the lack of support, I continue to do art.
I do art as a hobby and I love it. My next step would be to learn how to paint with oil paints. I find it so difficult but I love acrylic. I am a self taught painter but I would never say I was professional. I have a long way to go, there are so many techniques out there that I could learn.
I will start off with more of my early work as a child/teenager. I hope you all like some of my stuff!
