Chippy Chips at his window the day before he left us
Two years mate and yes the world is still a little less brighter without you. You where a bright light little mate and you touched the hearts of everyone who got to know you. Even before we met your sprit had shone through because your "Mum" gave you away to us. Not because you were unwanted but because you were loved and she coulden't bear the thought of you being left alone all day whilst she was working. And so you came to us and i remember the first time we met. You where mucking about on Rockys cage not at all bothered by big Rocky who was looking a bit bemused. You took one look at me and to my surprise you flew steight across the room and landed on my head. I don't know what you saw in me but i'm so glad no honoured that you chose me. I don't mind saying that it gave me a thrill whenever it happned. For instance you'd be playing on the table with Rocky, i'd sneek out of the room and go sit at the computer in the next room. Then i'd wait and yes almost every time there'd be a flutter of wings and you'd come banking round the door flaps down kill the speed and touch down on my head. I used to think he's just left one of his own to seek me out. Thank you Chippy you don't know how that made me feel. So many good times little mate. Your plastic duck how you loved that you'd sit on my finger with the duck (that we called Duck) in the v of my thumb and finger and you'd rub it with your head and make noises and talk to it "Chipps Chippy Chip oorrp scotch squark cuppa chips" your little head would be all fluffed up and your chin feathers sticking out.
Meal times too you'd get your beak into everything if we'd have let you. You'd fly over univited walk right onto my plate with a look that said "erm i think you need a hand with that sandwich" "Well okay Chippy help yourself...oh you are doing don't mind me" and you didn't you where sutch a cheeky happy little bird and we all loved you.
It was so hard to see you growing old. How you started to avoid Rocky because he was to rough. How you could no longer grip my finger your grasp once so strong now so week. And your left wing, how your flights got shorter and that wing wouldn't quite go back into the right place for a few minits. Until eventually there where no more up's only downs.
But we we're not finished yet eh mate. We found new things d'you remembre we found new stuff. So what if you coulden't fly i carried you all over the house. We'd go to the door and look out, listening to the garden birds how you loved that. You'd launch into your song or do that double chirp and sometimes we'd get an answer. How pleased you'd seem you'd look at me as if to say "Dad they spoke to me". And when it was to cold or wet we'd go upstairs to your window i put an old C D stand on it's side and it became Chippys watch tower. I left you up there for hours i'd be in the next room painting my modle ships but i could hear you chirping and singing away. Every now and again i'd bring you a drink in a plastic cup and you'd break off and have a sip. Sometimes you'd hop on to my arm, no longer the finger you where always clever and you'd figured out the arm was easy comperd to my finger. Then we'd sit and talk i do miss our talks, you seemed to understand. You where sutch a good little mate Chips.
Your little watch tower sits there now mate with the picture of you on my arm the same one as above. So your still watching over your field. I know you loved it in there as your years drew to a close, it was quiet and there were no threats as even Rocky and Skipper had become a bit to much for you. Just me n you eh mate i know it made you feel safe. I sometimes go and sit on the end of the bed in there next to you like i used to and say a word to you, i should make more time and do it more often.
I've put some flowers on your little grave there's lots of yellow one's. Y'know Chips it's kind of funny but when i look out of your door or window at this time of year the time you left i can see yellow and green daffodils and it always makes me think pf you. I've lit a candle as well. I'd like you to know that although we only had 5 years together it's a time i'll always treasure i just wish there where more of it. You did more for me than you'll ever know little mate and i thank you for it. I do so hope we'll meet again.
Love you sleep well and fly high Chippy Chips i'll never forget you
