Hi budgie friends, and greetings to you all after another very long pause when my life seems to have been requisitioned by all sorts of other rather difficult things. It is lovely to see the familiar names and new ones under 'new posts'. I'll catch up gradually.
Just wanted to let you know that Berry slipped away last week. He seemed to be fine the day before but in the morning he didn't move away as usual when I put his food in the cage which was the first sign things weren't right. Ten minutes later he was on the bottom of the cage looking very poorly. I knew it was the end for him and there was no question of rushing him off to the vet. He left us a few hours later cradled in my hand lying on my belly (warm, plenty of room and nice and soft!). It was very special to have him so close to me.
As you can imagine, he has left a big gap in my budgie family. I feel especially for Woody as they were together from the beginning. As a little interim tribute, here is the first video I made of them a few weeks after they arrived back in 2012:
Oh, birdguhl, I am so terribly sorry. My heart goes out to you. You, Berry and Woody will miss his beautiful presence so much. Thankfully his passing was relatively quick. What a great character inside a tiny little package. xx
Rest in Peace, sweet little Berry, you will be missed by more than just your little flock. Rest in Peace, beautiful boy. xxx
birdguhl, I will always remember and admire the beautiful photo you took of the two boys early on, of them both in flight. Would you please, if you don't mind, putting up this photo in a tribute to this strong little man? And, hugs and tributes to you as well, for looking after this very special little man for so long. xxx
We are not Vets, Avian or otherwise. If you have any serious doubts about your budgies' health an appointment with an Avian vet should always be your first point of call.
I am so sorry. Berry was also one of my favourites - he seemed to retain that irresistible babyish look. He had a good life with you & the rest of the flock. At least he did not suffer at the end & you were with him. What a welcome he must have got over by rainbow bridge. Fly high little cutie.
