Hello lovely peeps Now that Rainbow has taken up permanent residence and hubby has fallen into line , I need to look at a play area for the wee boy for when he is ready to leave his cage for an adventure. When I had Blue Boy, he had the run of the conservatory but since his passing, the conservatory has been completely refurbished and I would be totally pushing it with hubby if I tried to convince him that it would be a great place for Rainbow to fly about. After heavy negotiations this afternoon, hubby dear has agreed to allow the boy to have a corner in our kitchen/dinning room ( we have a very small house and this is the only space I can convert). The area is about 13' away from the cooker and fumes. My intention would be to usher him out into the lounge when I am cooking. So I am looking for ideas please. If you could post me any pictures of what you have set up, I would be really grateful. I wanted to hang various ropes and toys from the ceiling but the other man in my life will not let me make holes in the new plasterboard ceiling. Misery guts. So maybe a corner shelf with branches mounted ? I look forward to hearing from you and thank you in advance. Best wishes

If he has a flat surface on top of his cage, you can use bird-safe wood glue (I used avi-repair) to stick a dowel to a piece of wood, The below picture is of a handmade playground in my daughters bedroom We found everything we needed at homebase. We already had the swing, ladder, ribbons, buttons and chain it took to make the toy. She put it in an ikea unit. The playgrounds online are gorgeous, but my daughter desperately wanted to make him a toy, and i am no diy mom but it was pretty easy 😉

Sorry I can't help my birds don't fly free, this is their cage/aviary!

I have made my birds their play gyms, but I'm not sure of where I may have photos. I will try to find some for you. They also have a "tree" that I made as well, that lives on the other side of the very large open living/kitchen area, so they have a place at both sides of the space. Of course, being budgies, they prefer to sit on my louvre windows rather than on the tree itself!!!

I have two playgrounds. This plastic one that a friend gave me: ..and this natural wood one that I bought the budgies for Christmas, the natural bird product company made it for me:

This is the set up we have for Bertie, his playground, toys, mirrors, food and water all on our coffee table in the living room. He spends most of his time here but can fly to his cage or window perch when he wants. The cage door is only closed when Bertie goes to bed.

You could always hang stuff from a curtain rail in your room, there would be no need to bore holes then. I use the baby plastic teething rings to hang stuff from mine, I've got a cargo net, swing, ladder, and a boing. My living room window gets some funny looks from people passing by 😅😆

The little toe rag never used it. He sat on the handle of the window in the conservatory, chirping away to the birds in the garden. Never played with any of his toys!!!

mrsfuffsters - I have a spare 'play gym' that my buds don't use, and I haven't got space for it, which I would be willing to send you. It is pretty much like the one in the background of maz66's picture, it comes to bits and is easy to assemble, would need a bit of glue to make it more permanent. You would need to hang stuff on it though to make it look as nice as Bertie has his! P.M. me if you are interested.

I had to laugh at Bertie's playground and how he has commandeered the coffee table, I love his shaving mirror too!
