Hi Nev90! Thanks for the insight, that's cool. Where do you get the cinnamon? I don't know much about budgie genetics, but I saw online that "cinnamon" meant brown feather markings instead of black or grey. There's no brown on this bird. She does have black cheek spots on one side of her face, and white on the other, so that's weird. -mousehq There are very few markings on this bird because of the pied and the opaline but the throat spot and the very few markings on the wings that we can see appear to be dark brown in these pictures - not black. Also pink feet and soft body colouring are signs of cinnamon. The reason I thought that she could be yellow face rather than green series is because the yellow on her face is much darker than the yellow in other areas. A check under her wings for white or sky blue feathers could confirm this .....

That's really interesting! Did/do you study budgie genetics as part of your profession, or just for a hobby? (Genuinely asking here) Genetics aside, I think Olympia is a really interesting looking bird, and I'm glad we have her. She's definitely the more submissive of the two, and doesn't sit on my hand as much as the other one. A lot of that is because the other (Riley) chases her off.

I have studied genetics and the way that traits are inherited but recognizing the different budgie mutations is something that is best learned by experience. I bred my first budgies when I was about 8 and I now 76

You have some wealth of knowledge. I have about 150 budgies at the moment - they include most mutations. I don't breed show type because I prefer tight feathered active birds over the modern show types. My pictures are taken in a cage I made that I can slip a calendar picture in behind the birds. It has a mobile perch so the bird can be positioned nicely.

Love your birds, nev90 .... consider yourself lucky that you are across the ditch, as I would probably make a pest of myself, otherwise!! Nothing like learning from a master.
