i split them up Jan 4th, and for Jan 7th and 8th (yesterday and today) they've had calcivet in their waiter. I added the nest box just now, and to my surprise, she was immediately (and i mean immediately), interested in the box, giving it the side look of "is that what i think it is", and a minute later she had given up just looking at it and flew over to give it a proper investigation, Tazz followed, and she is now sitting on the nest box perch chewing round the entrance. She did have her head in the box , but Tazz flew off to a perch and she got a fright . Iv'e high hopes for these two as parents, so here's hoping. EDIT she just went fully in the box.

Thanks Marianne . Things have gone a little strange, Holly started, chasing Tazz round the cage, she seems to be trying to attack him. She's stopped for now to check out the nest box, so i'll wait and see what happens. Strange though they seemed to be bonded with each other.

she's still chasing him around quite brutally, she's been in the box again though. Any idea's why she's started doing this, they where getting on fine until i put the box in, infact that's why i did put the box in because they seemed to be getting on fine.

Well that hasn't lasted very long, Holly calmed down a bit but she was still a little bit hostile toward Tazz and since i wont be their to watch them very much tomorrow, iv'e took Tazz out, to try and salvage things though iv'e put Mak in with her. That Seemed to do the trick ,but i thought the same with Tazz and plus it was Mak i had the problems with the last time. But we shall see, she certainly seems more tolerant of him, she wasn't too keen at first, but after a while they settled and they started preening and feeding each other, something she wouldn't let Tazz do very often about 10 minutes later, she has now gone back to the box with Mak out side, she pecked him away though. not like she did Tazz though just a simple peck and then she went back to what she was doing. Hopefully she'll be nicer to Mak.

sounds like the swop maybe a good one ryan ....but give them time... I certainly hope it's a good one . Last time Mak was either breaking the eggs or eating them or both. I think it was because he kept going in the box and trying to chase her out to mate, and the eggs got the brunt of it, hopefully this time with Holly's knew found aggression he might not be so keen. But i doubt it, for some reason she has never been all that aggressive toward him, their currently sitting preening, the total opposite of what she was before with Tazz .

well if you see them doing the do....you could take him out and let her bring them up on her own .....lots do...but beter if he will help without smashing the eggs...time will tell. I did that last time . When i took him out the eggs remained for a good few weeks (hence why i knew it was him) ,i was getting worried they wouldn't hatch but out popped a little chick, and if i remember right it was the day i was planning on splitting them up (i thought the eggs where infertile). i introduced the male periodically at this point to help the hen, because i was worried about her doing it on her own, i supervised and it worked quite well, their was even one moment i found the male incubating the eggs and i think the hen was incubating the chick, thats what i call team work LOL. But sadly for what ever reason they never did feed the chick and three days later it was gone. The other eggs never did hatch and so i split them up. After that i wasn't too keen on breeding Mak again, but i really have no choice as i only have him and Tazz. She's still going in and out the box but is quite nervous, im not sure what will happen with them. She's also eating an amazing amount of eggfood much to my delight. That should help fatten her up that bit more. Iv'e also given Mak and Holly avipro (a probiotic and vitamin mix) i'll continue that for another two days and iv'e given Tazz and Sky calcivet. I have also given Tazz and Sky a nestbox, too see if he gets on better with her than Holly.

Sky and Tazz are getting on fine today, Sky's been outside the box and put her head in a few times but so far is yet to go in it. Holly and Mak are doing great, she isn't aggressive anymore and is even preening Mak, and she's going in and out the nestbox.

Great progress so far. Sky and Tazz and starting to feed each other (they where ignoring each other). And Sky is constantly in and out the nestbox and removing the wood shavings. Mak seems to have done the trick with Holly, her cere's turned from a whitey-brown to a full nut brown colour, and she's going in the box often, not as much as Sky and she's also not removing the shavings yet, but she is moving them around to her liking (if i remember rightly that's what she did last time, instead of removing them she just moved them around), although Mak is getting a dint on the head any time he tries to get her eggfood ;D. Diego and Fidget are NOT liking being alone together, they've never gotten along since i got them (im not talking absolutely hating each other, but they do squabble constantly and tend to avoid each other) and now the others are split up for breeding, there left alone together, the other budgies seemed to keep them in balance but now their gone they seem to be fighting for "alpha budgie"!. I also got a new bath for them today, which im going to switch round the cages, it's currently in Holly and Mak's cage and Holly seems to enjoy it, no bathing yet, but she seems to be "plotting it" ;D.
