I mated a Cobalt hen X Dark green cock. Out of two rounds, all chicks were Cobalt, so i presume the cock is split blue.
I have now mated the same hen X Light green cock. The first round (5 Chicks) are all Blue, 1XCobalt, 1Xlight blue-opaline, 3XLight blue. Again i assume the cock is split Blue, plus Opaline.
However, which ever way i put it into the genetics calculator, i can't get the above combinations, and they all give Mostly combinations of gren split blue. Also, what are T1 and T2.
Thanks experts, Andy.

It might take several clutches before you get average percentages but you will get greens eventually
T1 & T2 usually refer to two of the yellow face mutations (mutant type 1 & mutant type 2)

As theyv'e coloured up, iv'e noticed that the Cobalt, and the Cobalt (not skyblue) opaline, both have a lot of purple opulance on the head and neck. Is it possible they are split Violet?

Violet is dominant so they can't be split for violet. They could be violet if one of the parents is violet. It is often very difficult to see if a green bird has a violet factor so the violet could come from the green cock bird.

andy4711. You should get skyblue, cobalt and mauve offspring but the law of averages needs many `units` to work properly.

Thanks guys. Nev. Whats the best pairings for these youngsters in the future, and the green cock now, to get a full violet looking bird. Cheers.

Sometimes cobalts show a little purple around the neck area. Mating to another violet is the best option. This should produce about 25% double factor violets. If another violet is not available pairing to a violet to a cobalt will produce about 50% single factor violets

Hi Albino. That was the first mateing, which produced all cobalts, but none showed any sign of violet, so im hoping this time, the light green cock has introduced the violet. Nev. Am i right in thinking that the SF is hidden, like in the cock, and the DF is a visually Violet bird? Thanks.

I was at a bird sale last Sunday and there was a grand normal violet cock for sale but it was priced at £20. I had already bought a couple of large Lutino hens for £10 each and really didn`t want to spend quite that much more on top of our entry fees plus sales table. Good luck with your breeding, I am hoping to produce some yellow-faced dominant violet pieds this year. I have the ingredients and hope that the law of averages works in my favour. My first chick of 2012 appeared yesterday from a yellow-faced albino hen and an albino cock.
