My friend sent me this article about green budgies and homes needed. I know nothing about this place but there is a website if you google it. Hopefully good homes will be found for the budgies.

I'm afraid it is over the hills and far away from me. I could only re-home one anyway.

Why is he letting the breed if he can't home them?

Why is he letting the breed if he can't home them? Exactly what I thought, I got the impression they are colony breeding which is never a good thing

He's Mancunian. He is also a keeper of an aviary in a park and he obviously doesn't know what he is doing.

I do notice at times people over look a normal green budgie ...I would think removing the nest boxes should be done if they are having to search for homes for them....

I cannot believe some people. If there are no homes for them, why breed them?!
I might send him an email and tell him to take the nest boxes out!

These people do not know what they are missing. A budgie is a budgie regardless od=f the colouring. If they have too many budgies they need to stop breeding them. Full stop.

Don't know if it will do any good but I've just emailed friendsofjohnleighpark@gmail.com, gave them a piece of my mind, told them what they are doing wrong, why and how to correct it, I'm not expecting any reply but I had to get it off my chest

People miss out. I personally think that the normal greens are the most colourful (and entertaining) of the lot, not to mention that they are how a budgie is supposed to look! The rest of the argument I will leave alone ...... grrrrrr.

I have received a reply from the email I sent to friends of John Leigh park, I have edited it but only to remove my email address: -
I think you are unreasonably critical
We do have very competent people amongst our members. Our aim is to encourage appreciation and enjoyment of the birds

Good evening
It has come to out attention that you have a surplus of budgerigars in the aviary, apparently you have also got young chicks in the nesting boxes, can I please advise you to remove the nesting boxes as soon as possible for three main reasons: -
1) Why are you allowing the birds to breed when you are already struggling to find the the young new homes? Take the nestboxes out!
2) If you are colony breeding as I suspect, It is very much frowned upon and has been for many years, budgies are not monogamous, they will interbreed which can cause serious problems for the health of the birds and any future offspring of the youngsters you are trying to rehome.
3) It is extremely inadvisable to breed budgies less than a year old, can you guarantee that the birds aren't allowed to breed until they are of breeding age, no, I didn't think so.
This is the sort of incompetency that we budgie enthusiasts detest, someone is responsible for the birds welfare and that person should hang his head in shame, budgies are living animals and deserve to be treat in a caring, well loved manner, they are not breeding machines.

Not one of your points were replied to. There was no attempt to engage in the conversation. I feel a rather curt and contemptuous reply form the head of an organisation that doesn't actually know how it works. That's my opinion.
Sorry for any typos.

Not that it will do any good, but I responded with this email: - Peter Davies < > Today at 13:13 To John Leigh Park Message body Re: -"Our aim is to encourage appreciation and enjoyment of the birds"
Your aim should be to encourage responsible ownership of the birds in your care through positive education, they are not a side show attraction, nor as previously stated are they breeding machines, especially in an apparent colony breeding environment. I have kept and responsibly bred budgies for years, and being an active member on a UK budgerigar forum I can assure you that the birds in your care are a topic of concern to members of the forum, made only worse by your recent email, (which I have shared online) you made no attempt to answer my concerns, instead calling my valid points "unreasonably critical" And breathhheeeee,
