Hi We have a beautiful all white female we call Lilleth. She lives in an outdoor avary with 8 other budgies. Just recently I have noticed she has an enlarged wattle, but only on one side. Her nostrils are clear and the inside of her mouth and beak is in good condition. I have had her for three years but she was an adult when I got her. Also, each winter (she is fine in the warmer months) she gets a mucky tail with 'tassels' hanging from the feathers around her vent. I have taken her to the vet previously with the mucky vent. They gave her an injection but there really was no improvement. She is really well in herself and the rest of her feathers are really tight and clean. All the other budgies are in good health and condition. Any info will be appreciated, thanks.

I am finding it hard to see in those photos, but it is possible she has a tumour. I would get her looked at by a vet.....they may be able to say if it is or not, and work on things from there. How long have you noticed it for and when was the last vet visit? Sometimes they can grow quite quickly.

I noticed it about a week ago and it was smaller then, I thought it might have become enlarged as they are all canoodleing in the sunshine but was concerned when it was only one side.. Kirk Vets at Sleaford (Lincolnshire) is listed as an avian vet on the parrot society uk website so I'll take her along there. Thanks for your replies, its much appreciated. Sue

Hi everyone, Just to let you know how Lilleth got on. I took her to the vets and they took a sample from the lump. When I got home I released her back into the aviary and saw the lump had gone altogether!! I had a look in the carrier and there was this dried lump complete with nostril hole. Lilleth is very well and there is only a slight mark where it was. I phoned the vet and he told me it had been an absess and to keep an eye on her in case she needs antibiotics. Thanks to everyone for your comments and support.
