I know this is a budgie forum but thought I'd post this on the off-chance that anyone also has canaries - hope this is ok. My mum's elderly canary (who we were looking after) sadly passed away this morning and as we have no plans to get another, I was wondering if anyone would like the following:
De Luxe canary seed (from Haiths) and: Cede canary egg food (also ordered from Haiths)
I ordered 2kg of the canary seed in June.. I haven't got scales so don't know exactly how much is left but I would guess it's at least a Kilo (I'll post a pic in a sec).
I ordered the egg food at the same time - it has been opened but it's pretty much a full bag - expiry date is April 2018. Again, I'll post a pic after this post.
I'm based in Kent so can drop off or meet someone halfway if they're local or post out for anyone who lives further away - just seems a shame for them to go to waste.

I am sorry about your poor Mum's canary, even if elderly. I am looking after one at the moment; she is delightful but I have to give her back on Monday. I wonder how canary eggfood differs from budgie eggfood? Can't be much different, I wouldn't imagine. I think either would be perfectly fine for your budgies to enjoy. I would mix the seeds together, bit by bit; as you say a shame for them to go to waste.

Eggfood: Forgive the condition of the box but believe it or not, that is exactly the condition it arrived in!: To give you an idea of how much is left in the bag (i.e. it's basically full!): Seed:To give a rough idea of how much seed is left (container not included): As you can see it's not a vast quantity so would probably suit someone who's got one or two pet canaries.. just seems a shame to chuck them

Thanks Hezz - sorry I didn't see your post until after I'd posted mine. I thought that about the eggfood too but Cede (the brand) do two different types - 1 for canaries and 1 for budgies. I know that's probably a marketing ploy to make you buy more but I wasn't 100% sure as it does also have a small amount of canary seed in it as well. As for the seed - I didn't realise budgies could have a canary seed mix as well - are you sure this would be ok (if no one wants them)?? And agreed - canaries are lovely - shame yours is only on loan - I bet you'll miss her when she goes back!!

I wouldn't give the buds the canary mix straight, just in case there is something missing there, for budgies, as googling doesn't help me find out what Haithes put into their mix. Canary seed (as different to a canary seed mix) is a good seed for budgies, as well. I actually purchase a finch seed mix for my birds as the budgie mixes contain too many oats for my liking. Canaries are of the finch family, so why not save yourself some money and supplement the buds seed with what you already have? I will miss little Miss Pippy when she goes home, but I am sure her owner will need another holiday in the future.

Both will be fine to give to your Buds. I have Finches living with my Budgies and they eat the budgie seed and the budgies eat the Finch's. I agree with Hezz though, mix it with their normal food, i have both on offer for mine
