I recently came across this very interesting article, for those who have, or wish to make, the time to read it. It could be placed in almost any of the sections of the forum, but probably fits best here. Marianne Marlow, I'll leave it up to your discretion, but possibly worth being made a stickie?? fall2016.iaabcjournal.org/human-avian-bond/

It's certainly a very interesting article. If I made this post a sticky, do you think her article would stay on the web forever?
I could ask permission to re-print it here and link to her, if there is a way to contact her?

That was very interesting Hezz and rather long. I started to read it and my computer crashed. Anyway, I got back to it and carried on. You certainly have a lot to learn and do with Loki!!!

Not just for Loki; as she very rightly mentions, even though she talks of parrots (which our budgies are of course, she does mean for all birds to be included, Shirls. Marianne, thanks for going further; I will look forward to giving these a read, as well. Just love the comments regarding wing clipping - one of the very few that can be found from so-called bird experts that we can all feel in tune with.

After OD-ing on coffee I can honestly say that I found that novel report very informative and an extremely refreshing read! (when my partner stopped talking whilst I was reading that is) Do you guys ever find that? They just HAVE to talk to you despite you holding a book/kindle/tablet? I find that I have to go into the other room so he doesn't disturb lol! Ok enough coffee now... Am glad you made it a sticky Marianne Marlow

Very good article. Interestingly enough I took a nap and all of my budgies were very peaceful during my nap. The minute I began to move around they started their play and normal level of noise. LOL! These budgies are incredibly intelligent! I have not had a budgie since my adolescence and I have been reacquainted with these amazing budgies...and I ask myself how I have been able to be survive without them all these years. I LOVE budgies!!!

It's strange that when we had Jo and Misty 1 and 2, Pip would never really come to us, he would stay on your hand for a minute or two and then off he would go to pander to Jo's needs. Since he has been on his own he is the most lovable little thing, he will sit with me on my laptop for hours. He sits on my hand and watches a film with me, feeds me constantly, which takes some getting off as it sets like concrete. He knows he doesn't come out until after lunch and then every time I go past his cage he is shouting and handing upside down wanting to come out. Some days he will only come out for an hour and goes back in, other days he is out for hours.
He has gotten more inquisitive, into anything I have, food, paper or anything different.
I think he prefers to be a lone budgie. As I am at home most days he is not on his own.

I think that some do prefer to be on their own. I suppose like humans. Bailey obviously had no choice for the first few years of his life. whether he would have been happy to be on his own, had he started with a flock for a few years, not sure
It’s lovely you have that bond now though. It’s very special
