Found baby 1 outside the nest box when I returned home today. Popped her back inside. I was amazed at her strength she started clinging and trying to crawl up side of cage. Baby 4 is still so small, I'm actually a little worried and have got the hand rearing formula out. I'm waiting for hubby to get home and I'm going to start weighing them so I can make sure the baby one in particular is being fed. The crop doesn't look particularly full to me, and in relation to the others the growth is extremely slow.
They are all very noisy now. They all have different sounds. I'll try to take some pictures as I weigh them.

Baby 1 - 44grams, 21 days old Baby 2 - 44 grams, 17 days old Baby 3 - 38 grams, 16 days old Baby 4 - 17 grams, 13 days old
There is no correlation between their weights and their age. Poor little baby 4. It's crop was full when I weighted it, I checked. Maybe it isn't getting as much as the others. I wonder if the variances are down to gender and just who is bossy and gets all the food first. I wonder if baby 2 is male?
Baby 1 was out of the nest box when I got home, popped her back inside.
I think 1 and 4 are both female, they have the red eyes and yellow feathers and after reading the genetics any lutinos produced would be female. But I could have misunderstood. 2 and 3 are dark, one has white in their feathers the other has yellow. The weight of 2 makes me think male. Baby 3 I'm going with female.
Of course all this is just guesswork, and we will find out in a few months time!

Perhaps baby 4 will just be a smaller budgie. I think that my Monty was the smallest of his litter (just a guess) but he had a massive personality and attitude, perhaps due to having to fight for everything. He was only about 30g as an adult and really tiny!
So fingers crossed for baby 4.
Also, are they exhibition type birds? as 44g is more than some of my adult birds currently weigh!

Probably more to do with the individual scales, Marianne Marlow. As you well know it is more about trends than the actual weight shown. I know my scales don't weigh well down the bottom end from 50gms and below, so I don't really believe everything they say, but more go on what they tell me week to week. I do even sometimes question this, as some weeks they do seem to be right off.

I know what you mean Hezz. Sometimes when I have finished weighing my birds on a Sunday I see that the scales still say 2g. Then I nudge them and they go back to 0g or even say -g.

They aren't exhibition birds no. I find you can get the big exhibition birds, then 'normal' sized budgies, then little tiny ones like Heathcliffe. When I have weighed some of my birds when they have been poorly, and also the vet has done so they have all been around 50 - 56 grams, excluding the tiny ones. Baby number 1 is already the size of little Heathcliffe and Pearl; they are both quite small budgies. I know what you are saying about the scales, they may be a gram or two off, but I just wanted to monitor baby 4's weight as she's so slow at growing (I'm saying she as don't want to keep saying 'it' or 'they'). Whilst I was weighing her it made sense to record what the other 3 weigh. I have left them be today, had a peek but not touched them. I shall be cleaning the nest box out tomorrow so will weigh them again and hopefully baby 4 will have a put a gram on maybe. I hope you are enjoying their journey as much as I am; it is nice for me to be putting something happy on the forum rather than illnesses. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

It is so interesting clt80 to follow you and your babies on their journey. I will never have the experience of all this and really look forward to seeing your updates. Thank you so much for sharing, it is a real delight.

Oh I'm glad you like them ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) They have all been weighed this morning and they all weight less, with the exception of baby 4 who has put on 2 grams, Baby 1 - 42g Baby 2 - 41g Baby 3 - 36g Baby 4 - 19g Baby 4 now has her eyes open, goodness they are so cute. Baby 1 last night kept coming to the nest box entrance and peeking out. My heart was melting over and over!
