A Brigadier of a nuisance today.

A major nuisance??? No, no, no ... he was only playing with me. He lifted his rank up to Brigadier today, for sure! Today I had to take time out to escape the antics of the Loki. It was a case of a lot to do and someone getting into everything he shouldn't have each and every minute I turned my back .... onto the ceiling fans (they were off of course) but not somewhere I want to encourage him to be ....., holes nibbled in the insect screens (I had to go buy patches to cover the holes), landed on my shoulder as I walked down the stairs and out the door (luckily nothing untoward happened and we made it back inside) .. he is so quiet flying now that I didn't know he was there until he landed. Pulled the "windows" key off the keyboard and it no longer rebounds as it should .... chewing off my hair and biting my neck while I try to work on the computer (that always happens, but not so relentlessly) or being there every time I needed to walk out the door. Phew!! We kissed and made up later, but, I did need to take a break. Not helped by a stressful week at work and lots of housework to catch up on.

Just needed to have an offload. A niece (by marriage) with a couple of young children recently got two turquoise green cheeks (conures). I foresee problems in the future. Just hope I am wrong

I'm glad that you realised that he was on your shoulder in time. I'd hate for him to escape even if he is a little rascal!

It all happens at once. It must be like bringing up a you child only this one can fly. As with Marianne I'm glad you got back into the house with Loki still on your shoulder. Keep smiling.

The control key was next .... followed by the 'M' just now! Seems we will need to put a cover of some sort over the keyboard when it is not in use. Oh well ... he is in bed now ............... shhhhhh.

OH did not understand ... "aren't they all the things he normally gets up to, anyway?" Yes, but not so constantly. He gave up on the insect screen after I closed the glass door (it did get a little cooler, so no worries there) and he lightly bumped into it and had nothing to hang on to. That was after about the third hole that he had made ... not to mention all the small ones!!

If you can put get a sliding drawer that goes under the desk. I've had one for years now. It is just a little bigger than the keyboard so I put pens and things on it as well. That should solve the cover problem at least.

Is there a way outside through the insect screens? I would be worried about that.

I'm glad I am too old take on a proper parrot that would probably out live me.

The outside are is Loki-proof, luckily, clt80, at least, and that was going to be my next move. Only thing is he gets lonely out there on his own, so I would have to move both boy budgies as well, plus move their seed and water receptacles as well as his ............. he took bites out of my rubber flip-flops when I put him on the floor (new ones, of course).

skysmum, it really is like having a very naughty toddler .... I have great respect for the mums of children who have behavourial issues. Time out in his cage means yell as long and hard as humanly birdly possible so as to make sure the voice of protest is heard.

He has soooo many things to chew on you could not imagine that he would need more ... he has cardboard rolls, both thick and thin, he has hard chewy perches and soft chewy perches, he has vine balls, he has sticks, he has pine cones, banksia cones, and thick pieces of bark, he has paper, he has grass, he has paper rope .. is there anything I have missed?? ..... ah well.

All the things you mentioned will not have yours and the household odour on them. My guess is he wants to make everything part of his collection, or just wants to taste them. Dare I say the word 'training'. Can he be trained not to touch things that are not given to him?

I was reading about a dachshund that 'steals' all sorts of things from around the house. Although it didn't say that the dog damaged whatever he steals.

Loki sounds a right character. My dads amazon parrot likes to just destroy stuff, they give him a bell and he chews and chews it until he gets the clapper out of it, then he just looses interest and won’t touch it again. Same with plastic balls with bells in, he just chomps through them until the bell is out then throws it away in disgust! He enjoys it while he’s doing it but the entertainment is very short lived. All supervised of course.
