He is usually a great sleeping companion - he doesn't snore (big plus), generally once he is settled, he is settled although he does sometimes get into the oddest places. Once he burrowed his head into my half-curled hand (early on). I had to move him as I was afraid that I might jerk and with all my fingers were around his head and neck, it would have given him a terrible fright.

Do you have a nap with him? What if he's playing a trick , getting you to think he wants cuddles and then once you are asleep he peeps with one eye to check you are snoozing and up he gets and Captain Mischievous starts investigating all the places he is not normally allowed?

It's lovely that he likes to cuddle and nap with you like that. I love reading about him. He's fascinating. I'm always pleased to see a new post about him.

clt80, I don't believe anyone who says they can catch their bird asleep ... they are not truly asleep, even if both eyes are closed. He certainly doesn't move, though. In fact I'm the one who gets growled for moving!! He cat-naps; I catnap; I think we are both very aware of what the other is up to, plus he burrows into spots where he can't get out of without me knowing.

That is very sweet of him. How old is he now? What age are sun conures classed as adults?

How does he get on with Mac, Hezz? You are doing a great job with him, he always seems so alert and full of fun, probably down to you keeping that young brain active.

Yes, she will keep Loki's brain active as well.

That is very sweet of him. How old is he now? What age are sun conures classed as adults? He will be two in November, which is when he will be fully mature. This year could be very interesting as far as hormones go, but I am hoping that he is a happy and well-adjusted enough little bird to take it all in his stride. Big ask, I know. What teen ever had a good time?

How does he get on with Mac, Hezz? You are doing a great job with him, he always seems so alert and full of fun, probably down to you keeping that young brain active. Mac is fine with all the birds, even the wild scrub turkeys around, so that is not an issue, and while birds are inside and dog outside, so not a lot of interaction, Loki doesn't jump whenever Mac walks past the back door. He was in a house that had a large outside dog, so its not new to him, I guess. Yes, both brains are getting a workout; mine as much as his! All cable ties have now been popped, I have resorted to a padlock on one of the side doors to his cage, as I have to find something that does not allow them to open too far - I've been coming home to find these little doors pushed out open as far as the restraints allow. I think he could get his head caught (I doubt he could squeeze through, but you never know), and so am looking for something that is a little more restricting in movement than the quick links. Dolly pegs are the new chew-toy of choice. There is very little in his cage that is not chewable, but apparently only some are deigned to be fit for purpose.

do Conures poop as much as buds? Just wondering about the positions he is in, when he naps with you... He is really good regarding pooping. While his toilet training has stalled somewhat, he prefers to be out of his cage to poo (that's not a bad thing) but will if he needs to, so no mental issues there. Out of the cage, he generally poops from his favourite perch on his tree (hits the floor) or off the side of the budgies' cage (I'm not so fond of that one - makes a mess on the stand). If he is in the bathroom, he usually goes up onto the shower rose, so it lands in the bath then (easy to wash away). I think I have mentioned previously that he, conures in general, don't poop overnight. He prefers to wait until he comes out first thing and then flies to his tree. It's huge and that's one I do try to catch, but he can get a bit antsy about me waving a piece of t-paper around under his rear end, so I've taken to telling him to poop but not looking at him. I'm not sure if it makes him feel any better about it. Anyway, what I am trying to indicate is that he is a selective pooper and when he starts to get restless, I can pretty much guarantee that he wants to poo so I take him out and put him on his tree. So him pooping while napping is not really an issue .... it has never happened. (Knock on wood - I've probably jinxed myself, now)

Conures don't poop overnight? wow that is fascinating. So they have control over when they do it just like a human!
When Hector is sitting with me he makes me put him on the playground (by leaning towards it and flapping) to do his poop.

Except for her night poops, Mango always moves herself to the most far off perch to poo. This has started since she has been spending more time in her cage. Sparky would, whenever he could, hang is bum over the side of the cage, and the others learnt to and still do it. The little line of droppings indicates where the cage was positioned. Loki pooped on me a while back, must be about two weeks ago now ..... I was surprised as it had been so long since he had before that. I was so surprised that I commented on it. Lucky that he has limited English. I wouldn't like him to get a pooping complex.
