"Who's a pretty boy then?" several times over!!
Gorgeous. Last time I saw a very small flock of those there beauties was on a very cold day earlier this year. They were sat sitting, or slowly wandering around a huge outside flight at "Bird World" in southern England....and it was really nippy. The temperatures were around 7C and their aviary was not in a sunny spot either.
They are beautiful birds. The ones at Bird World were used to visitors and came down from their lofty perches to see if we had anything to offer them. They were tame enough to take food from our fingers.
Most amazing, to me, was the fact that they appeared perfectly healthy and fairly happy (as far as I could tell) in such cold conditions. I suppose they were used to it.
I know winter temperatures in Australia can fall fairly low but....
If only I could nip out their on my bike (or even the bus) I'd love to see them where they ought to be.
Hezz do have wild budgies visiting you too?

Oh wow how wonderful! Are they particularly noisy? In Britain Hezz we are so used to seeing them in solitary so is their natural way to hang around in groups like this?

Noisy? You had better believe it. Generally in the mornings, and evenings and any time in between. There might be one or there might be 20 ... there is always one getting left behind screeching "wait for me, wait for me ...". No, Learner, we are on the coast; budgies are desert birds. On a side note, I'm putting my money on a budgie explosion around Boulia in the next few months - something I would love to see. Big rains over the last month or so, all the grasses will be up and seeding and budgie breeding goes into turbo ...
