Okay, so, getting a budgie from a pet store is hard.
Where to start?
1. Clipped Wings- Many pet stores clip the beautiful wings of a budgie. This apparently "allows the budgie feel safe that it cannot fly and hit the walls". Wrong. Please ask the pet store to not clip the wings!
2. Their Diet- Give them a break. All they ate in their life is seed mix. Introducing veggies and fruits can be a big pain, but in slow steps, you will probably get your feathered friend to just eat the healthy fruits and veggies. I found its useful to cut the veggies and fruits to very small pieces and adding it to the seed mix.
3. Cuttlebone- It took FOREVER to teach my budgies to use the cuttlebone. I put food on the cuttlebone and held it to the budgies and they ate off all the food. After that, Daisy uses it regularly but I rarely or never saw Snowy using it. This can be a problem, because Snowy's beak is growing quite too long.
4. Refuse to come Out- BEWARE- this one can be extremely difficult! So... how am I going to get my budgie out of his/her cage? This is hard, but get their cage to a small and safe room (no other pets, open doors, or uncovered windows and keep in mind your iPhone charger might become a snack to your budgie, remove wires!) and open the cage door. Put treats on the floor or out the door, and after a few tries (not positively to 100% fail-free) your budgie may come out. Keep in mind this can take weeks!
5. Baths- Depending on your budgie, your budgie may or may never bathe.
Their are much more annoying things, but these are a few!
Edit: Yes, a few chain pet stores sell clipped winged budgies. I saw this recently in Petco and PetSmart when I was out to get food for my budgies. So sad that the mills cut the wings! Anyways, the pet store I got my budgies from didn't ever ask me if I wanted their wings to be cut.
