Hi thanks for the comments I was thinking I might be worrying a bit much about the winters. At the end of the day the box is heated and if it does get just too cold for them they should naturally seek the heat I think? Surely wouldn't just let themselves freeze to death. Was thinking about that Sherry, however plexiglass they might just fly in to, as birds and glass are not exactly well suited . Thanks for the idea though

Opps sorry colleboy didn't mean to quote that and just send it...lol...Would they have the same problem if the glass was tinted to a point that they could see, or is that even possible? I will be putting plexiglass around the outside of my cage to keep the heat in and the breeze(gust)of wind off her but she will still be able to see her lovely view☺

On the plexiglass theme, budgies aren't silly; once they know that the space is covered, they will not fly into it. You can introduce them to it by tapping on it while they are nearby, and opening and shutting it. If you have a particularly bold bird, put this one on your shoulder, finger etc and tap, if obliging enough, let him/her tap it for themselves. Budgies get to know the limits of their space even if there are uncovered windows and they can see the outside.
