Hi! I'm a first time bird mom, and would love to know the sex of my budgie - Ikaros. I've assumed since getting him from a pet shop that he was a boy, considering the blue on the cere, but, after doing a bit more research I've seen that females can have light blue ceres as well. So now I'm not so sure. In terms of temperament, Ikaros is super friendly and very chatty. I was able to get him to perch on my finger the first day I got him after he settled into his new environment. His wings aren't clipped and he has free fly time in my room daily. He'll chill on my shoulder or head or pretty much anywhere he can perch while I read or am on my phone, and he loves to mouth at everything with his beak; pretty much whatever he's standing on, the cage bars, my clothing, my hair, my glasses, etc. I know that for the most part behavior isn't a super great way of sexing a budgie, but from the fact that he hasn't been very territorial and has been very easy to get used to my hand I've assumed that he was a male. The pet shop also told me he was a boy, but, I know that sometimes they're wrong and it's hard to tell at such a young age. He still has his baby bars and button eyes, so I'm assuming he's less than 4 months old. Am I wrong? Do I actually have a little girl here? I've attached some pictures (hopefully they're clear enough).

Wow! I guess I have an adorable little girl then, thanks for the help everyone! And haha, oh yes, I'm very much in love. In fact, I was very much in love the second I saw her in the pet shop. Funny enough, I definitely hadn't been planning on getting a bird that day - I was just there with a roommate who was getting a hamster. But then as soon as I saw her...well, that was that. And while I've only had her for a month, I love her dearly and we get along great. She's a very sweet, amusing, and beautiful little bird. <3

It was obviously meant to be xxsapphyxx. She is a beauty. Love the name, will you keep to that name knowing she is a little girl? If I remember correctly Ikaros was male???

I have decided I will keep the name, even though she's a girl and Ikaros was a boy! Haha. As I type this she is on my keyboard because she's very amused by my typing. She's gotten even more comfortable with me over the past week or so. I've been working on getting her to fly to my arm when I call her, and she seems to be picking that up fairly easily. She definitely enjoys climbing around on me. And the other day she was falling asleep perched on my finger, all fluffy and standing on one leg, grinding her beak. She also will imitate kissing sounds I make as well as the occasional attempt at saying "pretty birdy". Lol. She definitely loves to be vocal.
