I just wonder if that chick had imprinted with your OH Hezz and that is why it didn't fight you when it was picked up. Did it actually see adult scrub turkeys. I would be rather worried about it in that respect.

They don't imprint, OP. Very few birds do. These guys are completely independent when they hatch - they get no help from the parents at all. They are just the way they are.

That's a hard start to life for them, poor little things. I just read that only 1 out of 200 eggs produces an adult turkey.
