hello - I'm new to the forum. I had budgies on and off from when I was little until about 15 years ago. It's been a long time since I've had a young budgie and I just can't figure out if our new family member is a boy or a girl. He/she was chosen by my daughter and she thinks it's a boy, but I'm hoping you experts on here can confirm one way or another. I know the pictures aren't great. If you need more detail I'll try to get some better images tomorrow. Budgie is pretty young, we think 8-10 weeks ish. Also maybe someone can tell me what colour variety type he/she is. Sorry I seem like a complete idiot. Any help you can give me is most welcome. Many thanks in advance Pictures for colour determining:

I don't feel that the photos of the cere are clear enough to determine whether male or female.
As for colouring, I think it is an opaline grey-green. It may be olive green, but the photos are telling me grey-green. What colour are the main tail feathers?

I couldn’t tell either from the pictures. Can you take some clearer ones? Close up of the cere.

I'm thinking on the side of girl, but the others are right, the photos are not clear.
Try taking one in daylight, but don't use the flash as it changes all the colours.

Thank you for your replies yes, sorry about the photos, I know they aren't great, it's been so dingy weatherwise that it's been hard to get a good photo. I've tried again, these might be a bit clearer although it's so dull outside at the moment and my phone seems to focus on the mineral block not the bird! Thanks re colouring, I was wondering if he/she was olive green opaline, but could be grey-green. I'm not sure of the difference. The tail feathers are really dark they look black to me but could be very dark green.

I would say you have a boy as I can’t see any white rings but the picture quality is not great 😊

Thank you Jane. I will see if I can get some better pictures over the next few days and try again.

I thought I saw white but to me, it looks a bit of both. Lol Ha, I know, it's confusing. I keep flip flopping. Maybe it's a transgender budgie I guess time will tell as it matures. My daughter has named he/she Corky which she thinks works for either gender.

I'm still thinking girly-hen. If the tail feathers are black, that will mean a grey-green opaline, if dark blue then olive-green.

Thanks, my daughter chose it. Corky is her bird really, although I'm smitten too.
