So very sorry to hear you've lost Squawk, Jane. At least he is free of suffering now ... Thinking of you ...

I know how that feels. It's nearly 18 months since Marshie did his runner, and not much less since poor dear Iany died, and I still miss them ...

I agree. I lost Billybob and Sky last year Sept and Oct, still feel sad when I think of them. Some of the other budgies mimic Sky's distinctive whistle and I find myself doing it too. Hector has started using Billybob's pot to eat his seed from now, so I guess they live on in other ways

I could never imagine before Squawk that budgies had characters like they do. They are like dogs in birds bodies. Every one of them is different but so captivating.

In that way our birds are lucky as so many are not cared for right as weโve seen in adverts. The fact Squawk allowed me to hold him for those last couple of hours was comforting to me as if he didnโt want me to heโd have bitten me. Iโm glad Sky left her mark on your buds and lives on in her whistle

Sky definitely left his mark yes.
I'm sure Squawk was comforted by those last moments. I held Sky as he passed away, and told him what a pretty boy he was.

Thatโs lovely for Sky that you was with him. Itโs so hard for us but my friend said that was a nice way to go with someone who loves you holding you. We are privileged really that we had that opportunity to do it for our buds. I told Squawk I loved him and to wait at the bridge for me. Iโd wanted to hold him for so long and scratch and kiss his little head like I did on Sunday. Itโs a shame I couldnโt do it before but Iโm just glad he finally let me when it mattered.

Or alternatively, dogs are like budgies in canine bodies! I was so pleased to hear you'd been able to hold Squawk and scratch and kiss his head at the end. Such poignant memories ...

I agree with the similarity between budgies and dogs. I thought that about Criswell. He would call to me as soon as I got home and he'd come flying over to see me whenever I was in the room with him. The way he liked to play and the emotions he showed towards me also reminded me of a dog. Of all the pets I've bonded with the bond has been most similar between Criswell and my dog I had when growing up.

Oh Jane, I'm so sorry to read this thread. I know I'm new and I don't get the chance to get on here much even to lurk but I had read your threads about Squawk and was hoping he'd improve. I've just seen this now It's so sad to lose a much loved pet of any species but birds are special. Having the new little one in the house is such a joy for me. Big hugs x
