HI everyone i have a lovely green pied cock i had him on the 31st Dec 2018 and he was 8 weeks old I have read lots and seen lots on the internet about the budgie Sunnie is adorable he loves his cover at night it seems to make him more chirpy and happy in the morning He is drinking and eating his trill mixed with a conditioning mix freely he also has a seed bell he likes to nibble on I repeat his name to him all the time and he is seems to be making different noises at night as if he is trying to repeat what i say to him I let him out in the evening for his fly around and then he returns to his cage for his food i have lots of toys for him but he does not seem bothered with them i hope he will eventually I have also put chopped fruits and vegs in a small dish on the bottom of his cage and fix on the side of the cage but he won't touch them should i get some vit supplement to put in his water I look forward to using this site for help and to see other peoples ideas Thank You

Hi sunnieboy, welcome to you and your new baby boy Sunnie. Glad to hear he gets some free flight time. Budgies are not really fruit eaters, but keep up with the veggies. What have you been trying? My two boys like, broccoli, carrot, sweetcorn, sugar snap peas, basil. It's try try try again until you find something he likes. Would love to see some photos of your new wee boy.

Hello and welcome sunnieboy and Sunnie. Sounds like you are doing the right things already. Just keep giving fresh veg, even every day, until one day he will try some. I'm sure he will. Perhaps pin (with peg) just one item on the bars for him to try, say basil, or a piece of celery. Tempt him with one thing at a time may work a bit quicker.

Hi and welcome. To get your little fella eating his greens, go back to what he would be eating if a wild bird, and that is seeding grass. If you can't access this, go the next best thing and those are things that look similar - herbs, not the pungent ones so much, carrot tops, celery etc. It may still take a while because he has not had these so won't know them to be food. You will have to teach him. If you are bonded, he will want to eat what you are eating. This is the easiest way to get a bird eating their greens. If he wants a bit of what you are eating, give him some.

Welcome!
You've been given excellent advice. I'll add that you might want to consider removing that seed bell. If it's similar to what's sold here in the USA, it's a sticky confection that's high in sugar and a no-no for budgies. Same reason why others have suggested veggies over fruit. There are many healthier options you can get in stores or on line.

You can try throwing some of his seed into a pot and seeing what happens, or any grass that has a seed head, as long as it is not growing next to a main road, subject to pesticides or herbicides.

Welcome to the forum sunnieboy! Glad you found us and hope you find it a great place to be Small pieces of veg might be better and not seem so intimidating for him so you might like to try that, especially try carrot as that has got Vitamin A in it He does look a lovely cheeky birdy too

Rinse off under a running tap. Tie up together with some paper rope and hang it in his cage or put on his play area. Where do you live?
