I became the proud father to Colin the budgie about 3mths ago.
He/she is apparently hand reared and less than a year old. Although I can't confirm either of these points, as I adopted Colin after his/her elderly owner died...
Colin is very tame, sociable, chatty, nippy, boisterous and an absolute joy to have about!
When I got Colin his/her cere was light tan in colour and crusty looking along with his/her beak. Soon after his/her arrival I noticed a change in his/her behaviour and he/she became very subdued and quite. He/she looked like he/she was losing weight. Then I noticed a lot of feathers in the bottom of the cage. I made the conclusion that he/she was probably going through his/her first moult. About 2 weeks later I noticed the colour of the cere was changing to a VERY pale blue colour. At this point I believed Colin was indeed a boy and there was no need to change his/her name to Colleen!
This was roughly 2 and a half months ago... Colin is now friendlier and more boisterous than ever! He/she still has pin feathers on top of and on the back of his/her head. The cere has over the last 2 weeks, lost the very light blue colour and returned to a light tan colour!
I'm now very confused as to whether Colin is a boy or a girl!?!
PLEASE HELP!😫

Could be a girl, but we'd need to see a photo.

Hens can have a light blue cere, but then go into breeding condition and the cere will become tan and then brown and crusty like your hens.

Thank you for your help everyone!
How long can I expect her moult to continue? As I said it's been 2+mths now and she still has pin feathers sprouting on top, and on the back of her head...
Thanks in advance...

A moult takes as long as it takes - maybe a week, maybe a month or two. Some seem to be in perpetual moulting mode.
