As you haven't heard about the chooks lately, a little update on their antics. All is well on the 'funny' farm, although none of the chickens are laying and haven't laid since October. The excessive heat we had in the summer sent them into a HUGE moult, and I mean HUGE. They now have all nice clean, fluffy, bums and a brand new coat of feathers.
This morning, first thing, I decided to give the coop what I call 'a big clean'. I do clean them out every morning, but this morning everything came out. They had to have their veggie breakfast 'al fresco' today too, which they normally have in the run. Normally I do my 'big cleans' during the day but felt it had to be done this morning early (whilst I had the energy and momentum!!)
Unfortunately, this really played havoc with their routine! They wandered round my feet clucking and complaining, three buffs had a fight which I broke up, then Aurelia started fighting with Molly, so I had to scold her by a quick tap on the beak much to her indignation. It has taken Aurelia a long time to stand up to anyone!
Once everything was emptied, brushed down, diatomed, and fresh paper and bedding installed, put one veggie bowl back in the run for them to finish off, put a few meal worms in as a treat for the disruption, shut the door. All went back to normal and calm.
Amazing how these chickens like the routine which they have come to know and love, and how dare me to change things round!!

Silly chooks! At least calm was restored by the human bird before too much damage was done.

Only four in the packet? Is that any sort of excuse, really, Shirls??? Why not buy three packets next time, please - one each for today and one each for tomorrow. I was in the process of trying to count those little cobs of corn, to see if they had one each, when you spoke.
