Yesterday, I was making the short trip from the bus stop to my home and noticed some pieces of berries falling to the floor, just missing me. I carried on walking for a second and then stopped, there was no window above me, so I knew it wasn't a person throwing used pieces of fruit at me.
I backtracked and looked up. There, staring down at me stuffing their beak with berries was an Indian Ring neck parakeet.
I smiled and slowly reached for my phone, said "hello". Unfortunately he/she flew off!
First I wondered if it was someones escaped pet. But after a Google, it was one of the local parakeets, so that's a relief!
Never seen one up close before, they're much bigger than budgies!

I bet that parrot saw you & thought - there's a bird-person if ever I saw one, I'll feed her some berries. We had a small flock visit some years ago - I wrote a blog post on it - but they never returned. They are still in a park a short drive away though. Blog post

They are much bigger than a budgie. Was it a normal green, Marianne?

I never knew you had such birds in London Marianne. What a thrill to see one up close.

I have this picture in my mind of the parakeet sitting in the tree wanting something to do. When lo and behold this person is walking beneath the tree. The parakeet looks down and ties to bomb her with fruit. So fun we are having.

Yes, it was a normal Green Hezz. Oh yes jellybean, we quite often see flocks of them fly over, but they are normally very high up, so it's hard to gauge what they look like or get an idea of size. and Yes, they do shriek! I often wonder why some parrots sing and some do not. These guys don't sing.

(Loki doesn't have a singing bone in his body. ) Most parrots don't sing ... budgies are probably the most melodious that I know. Galahs have a lovely bell-ringing "ting-ting" sound that is hard to get hold of. This probably the closest I have come across ...

I didn't realise that most parrots don't sing. I wonder why budgies do.
Those Galah sounds are like an immature budgie. But Galahs are capable of mimicry, as are Ring neck parakeets. So it's odd that they wouldn't sing.

Ahhhh, we stood for ages watching a pair of green parrots in Cookham a few weeks ago, they were checking out a hole in a tree when all of a sudden a squirrel came tearing through the branches, up the tree and into the hole, mine mine mine, the parrots didn't half make a racket . Of course it was one of those times when i wished id had my camera with me but didn't
